Another New EI Route To France

Wed Nov 23, 2005 5:47 pm

I noticed last night that it is possible to book flights between Dublin and Rennes on aerlingus.com According to the booking page, this direct service will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays between May 2nd and August 15th 2006???? I hadn't seen any press release from EI announcing this new route, or did I just miss it?

EI operated a DUB ORK RNN saturday service for going on 15 years, using F-50 / SH360 equipment. Rennes and Cork are twin cities, with many Brittany companies investing in the Cork region. Yves Rocher comes to mind.

Oh me too Shamrock350... I was hoping we might hear an A350 order from Dubai. As I'm sure you've seen, DM in an interview for The Sunday Tribune two weeks ago said an order would be place within the next two months. He also mentioned that he plans to increase the shorthaul fleet to 42 aircraft and the longhaul to 12 or 14 (can't remember). Apparently the yahoo orders groups also rumoured that an EI 350 order was imminent. Also many of us are getting our hopes us soley based on the huge number of Airbus advertisements in and around Dublin airport for the 350.
Fingers crossed!

I want EI to go down the 787 route for long haul (will offer them more flexibility with a smaller aircraft), and the A319 route for short haul expansion - again, a smaller aircraft for routes such as TLS, BIO, OPO, CPH, ARN, OSL, BRS, LPL, EDI etc etc etc....

Personnally I'm hoping and really think they'll go for the 350. Why? Maybe just reading a.net and its stupid A v B discussions has turned me fully in favour of Airbus. Nevertheless, no mater which way EI goes, I'll be delighted to see their expansion.

On that I totally agree with you.

Don't they have to start a new route from Shannon as well?

Actually you will find that I have come around to your opinion on this one - you have been talking about the A319 for about six months now. This is EI's only way to establish year round schedules on thinner routes.

Rennes seems to run from 20 May to 15 Aug. Fares from €94 return.

Didn't have a clue, and a bit of googling brought up this interesting info. Wow the things one learns every day!:

This uninhabited volcanic island is almost entirely covered by glaciers and is difficult to approach. It was discovered in 1739 by a French naval officer after whom the island was named. No claim was made until 1825, when the British flag was raised. In 1928, the UK waived its claim in favor of Norway, which had occupied the island the previous year. In 1971, Bouvet Island and the adjacent territorial waters were designated a nature reserve. Since 1977, Norway has run an automated meteorological station on the island.

I hope they get some A319s!! Do they have 27 shorthaul aircraft now? Will Aer Lingus ever start new longhaul routes from Shannon or are they mainly concentrating on DUB?

Even stopping the LHR-SNN? Not that I use it much anymore I tend to fly to Cork. So Aer Lingus will only operate out of DUBLIN and CORK. I do miss the Kerry routes and what about Belfast? I liked Aer Lingus back then, I still like them!!

I think Belfast could easily be on the cards. The whole of the north is basically an un-tapped market and could prove to be very fruitful if they are prepared to take the risk . I do think that all of their ops from shannon will be dropped in favour of cork and its greater potential.

Did Aer Lingus fly to the U.S from Belfast at one point not to long ago?

I have a question:
Have all the A320s that EI ordered been delivered?

Second question:
Does EI have any plans to order more short-medium haul aircraft?

I am very glad to see EI expanding.  thumbsup   thumbsup  for Dermot Mannion.

There was an article on an irish paper not too long ago...i think Toulouse started a thread on it.Basically they will have 27 short haul when all A320's have been delivered and as far as i'm aware Mannion wants to increase this to 42.So by my reckoning we should be shortly looking at an order for a couple of A319's/A320 and HOPEFULLY an order for the A350.FINGERS CROSSED!

Well I think the most recent A320 to be delivered was EI-DER. I'm not sure if its the last one I'm sure there are some more to be delivered in December.
After the A350/787 order I think we may see an A319/A320.
Sorry, Shamrock330 beat me lol.

It seems the 787 is moving farther and farther out of the picture for EI. If EI orders the A350, where will they get interim A330s while waiting for the A350? The A350 won't be available for quite some time. Is Air Transat's A330s still an option?

I highly doubt EI will last till 2010 (or whenever the A350 is released) with their current A330 fleet. They need some new long-haul planes within the near furthur if they have any hopes of expanding.

Yes they flew BFS-JFK via SNN for a few years until it was dropped not long after September 11th.

EI-DES, St Pappin/Paipan, Will arrive next month giving a total of 27 A320/A321 in the EI fleet. EI also hold 10 options (I heard 2 of these were converted a while back but there is no evidence of this). This is the last 320 on firm order. Dubai airshow is the perfect time for EI to announce some more A32X orders, esp with publicity that would be recieved for the recently announced DUB-DXB route. Im really hoping for some A319s

EI ran a BFS-SNN-JFK-SNN-BFS route for a few years but stopped about 4/5 years ago. EI cant fly direct from N.I. to the USA (at the moment) as they are not UK based.

If you're perhaps referring to the SNN Stopover, it's not applicable as it only applies to transatlantic traffic.

It would be excellent to have a Belfast-Dublin-Cork routing and it's failure a few years back had a lot to do with timings/frequencies, which were basically atrocious, so hopefully that could be more carefully looked at. Also, I feel flts to/from BHD would be required as opposed to/from BFS.
Be great to see.

I think both Boeing and Airbus will be offering new long-haul aircraft until the 787/A350 is ready.
