Air Lithuania Ceases Operations

Wed Nov 23, 2005 10:30 pm

From the company's website.

Due to the debts, "Eurocontrol" company suspended supply of air navigation services. Some other suppliers stopped providing their services to Air Lithuania as well.

Due to the fact that creditors were supplying strategically important services, the activity of air company was paralyzed. The management of Air Lithuania reports that receiving no services from Eurocontrol, the company has no possibility to continue the operation. Starting the 23rd of November, 2005, Air Lithuania discontinues operating the scheduled services. All claims should be sending by mail to the following address:

Air Lithuania, Karmelava, Kaunas district, LT-54460; info@airlithuania.lt

or by fax: +370-37-399242

Are there any other airlines in Lithuania? Was Air Lithuania the national carrier?

So the country is left without a carrier? Will there soon be a new one?

LAL is the national carrier and is still going. I flew with them years ago, nice little airline. Air Lithuania operated ATR42s on some minor routes, especially to the coastal town of Palanga. Since Lithuania joined the European Union Air Lithuania has taken advantage of the open-skies and also flew between Gdansk and Oslo and also some services from Luxemburg, to Hamburg if i remember correctly. Its sad to see them go.
