UA 763 J Class Seating

Thu Nov 24, 2005 4:35 am

Are the J seats on the worldwide 763 the same ones featured on the 777? I'm flying on one between ORD and CDG next Friday, and wanted to see if the seats will be the same as the UA J seats I have already experienced.

They are the exact same design, however they are 19" wide instead of 20.5" like the 777 (or 20" like the 747).

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. 19" will fit my hind quarters just fine.  Smile

They are the same and feel just as good when you are awake ande sitting upright, but when you are trying to sleep the narrower seat is annoying. The 19'' seat is barely wider than an economy seat, which I do not like and is a reason for avoiding the 763s when travelling internationally (along with the lower quality first class seat). But at least the 767s operate shorter flights.

Check seatguru.com. I flew LAX-ORD last month and it was 2-3-2 in coach.

I flew on the 763 LHR- IAD this summer. I managed to secure a seat in row 5 seat D. This is by far the best seat in the J Class cabin. I think the seat pitch was well over 60inches. Fantastic! However the seat was noticebaly narrower compared to the 777 that I took home. I did manage to sleep in the seat and I am a pretty big guy (6ft 3inch, 95 kilos). Although I suffer from having swimmers shoulders (which is not such a bad thing) it was a little tight when I initially sat down. However the flight was most enjoyable and I was lucky enough to get on one of the newly painted 763's.

United all the way!

It will be interesting to see what they do with the 763's when they start upgrading the seats at the end of next year.I am sure the new business class seats will be those which are currently in first on the PS service, but that begs the question what on earth are they going to do with those seats in first? Will they install the Sleeper Suites, they will take up a lot of room...we'll see!

Nice. I've got the 767 on a IAD-LHR flight soon and was a little pissed about having less width in the seat. My girlfriend and I are in 5A & 5B, do they have a similar amount of legroom as 5D?

Coming back we have 16A & 16B on the 747 upstairs. Was told we couldn't get the exit rows pre-assigned. I presume the exit rows are held back for UA 1Ks and UA PremExs to be assigned either ahead or on day of departure. What is the best strategy for securing these seats presuming that isn't the case? FWIW, I'm a Star Gold but with LH so doubt that counts for much...

Those can be hard to get in general because often an upper deck exit row seat is taken by a non revenue passenger. And yes only UA 1Ks and PEs can get exit rows assigned ahead of time.

No A and B do not have as much legroom. While the bulkhead is even across the plane, seats 5C and 5D are offset behind a little bit compared to the window seats. The seats are fine, but typical bulkhead seats and don't have extra legroom, although you won't have to deal with someone reclining into you.

I'm in United Business, so I have no concern for the Coach layout.  Smile
