AC Jazz YOW-YHM. How's It Doing?

Fri Nov 25, 2005 4:03 am

I've flown a few times between YOW and YHM in the past, most recently on AC Jazz. I never was able to figure out why Canjet cancelled the route because every flight I was on was 75% to 100% full on a 732 or 735.

Now that AC Jazz is doing the route with 3 x CRJ per day, I'm wondering how the flights are doing in terms of load factor and whether there's any possibility of upgauging the flights at a later point...

Andrew,

YHM to YOW? .. okay.. who would've thought the demand is there. The first and only time I was at YHM was two weekends ago when I had to catch a Westjet flight to YYC. Hamilton Airport is a junk, however it seems to have potential. As far as loads on Jazz to YOW, I have no clue, but when I was there a CRJ to YUL was full... so were the two WJ flights to YYC and YEG
Superior decisions reduce the need for superior skills.

I've been told that AC has been impressed with QK-operated YHM-YOW flights. The routes performance has exceeded their initial expectations. I would expect to route to stay.

whats QK?

Anyway I have also herd these route are doing well for them. Im wondering how much of this is connecting traffic at YOW of YUL? I have also herd that AC might be adding some other mainline from YHM.

QK is Air Canada Jazz, although it still says "Air Nova" when you put the cursor over it on a.net.

Good to hear the flights are at least possibly doing well.

Next flight.... who knows.

Yeah it's not the most modern airport, but they are slowly renovating it to make it more attractive. It even has wireless internet access (ooooohhhh wow!!!). It's one of the few airports I've been to where checking in, getting through security and making it to the gate takes under 10 minutes. It's also pretty cool getting onto/off of a 737 or CRJ without a jetway so you can see the outside of the aircraft up close.

I wonder where they'd go??? I guess they could replicate parts of their domestic YYZ network (YVR, YYC, YEG, YWG, YHZ) and capitalize on people who don't want to put up with the hassle of flying through YYZ.

If anything, I think they should upgauge the route to something bigger than a CRJ, because as we all know, the CRJ can be a bit cramped, especially for 6'4" people like myself (I've banged my head several times in several different places on a CRJ before!)

I would imagine YOW-YHM is doing quite well for QK. I work at YOW and it seems like there's usually a good crowd waiting at the gate wherever I walk by a YHM-bound flight. If prior history with C6 & WS is any indication, the YOW-YHM route is targeted more to the O&D market, while YUL-YHM is targeted more at connecting traffic, but both routes carry a mix of both types of pax of course.

I would imagine the CRJs will be on both routes for quite awhile, but as they grow AC would probably opt for increased frequencies, kinda a mini version of Rapidair version with 6 or 7 CRJs a day as opposed to an aircraft upgage.

YHM could probably support CRJs to YWG and YHZ 1x/day. Mainline would have to move into YHM to get to YVR...an untapped market from YHM.

Well, the load factor is beyond what they expected and be not surprised if you see some bigger ac's start showing up at YHM as soon they are
available.......

QK will fly west or north as soon as possible......

YHM is a very user friendly AP for small ac's but if they want to move forward they need at least 2 or 3 passengers docks and bigger facilities to handle a
wb ac.

Cheers,
