Mr. David Turnbull, Chairman of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Ltd., Swire Pacific Ltd. and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., has decided to leave the Swire group at the end of January 2006.

Rather sad and strange......

"Mr. Turnbull was Managing Director of Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. for eight years and, after careful consideration, he has decided that he wishes to resume a more active operational role."

Sounds like he has a COO job lined up.

Being chairman is too little for him... a chairman's job is mostly public relations and diplomacy, and he missed actually running a company day to day.

The owner of John Swire and Sons, Swire Group, Swire Pacific, Cathay Pacific is Mr John Swire right?

Pretty wierd that someone would give up the title as the Chairman which is the most senior guy of a company. What does he plan to do? Go for something less senior? Geeeeeeeeeeeez! Big grin

Sir John Swire to be exact...

It seems very sensible to me. Yes, "chairman" may be the most senior, but not the most interesting - so if he would prefer to do something else, why not?

A lot less paid I would say. So what does he plan to do?
