So what destinations does Hooters serve from Rockford?

OK, UA is coming to town to fly a route in the same general direction they (Hooters) already fly....why couldn't they take on another route? Rather than the customer base they've invested in building? BWI seems logical...
Seems like a waste to me....Doesn't Hooters serve Atlanta? I am surprised it wasn't on the list of 'dream' destinations mentioned in the article?

But, I should know by now it is no use second-guessing airline actions.

Was talking to my friend, he said he got some emails from some people that are telling him Hooters will soon be announcing an Ohio City.... You can guess which airport. One person said an announcement by years end and the other says April Start Dates....

My friend tells me it is YNG; Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. Both the airport and airline confirmed it and you can email both and they will confirm it. Also to add: Fred Krum of CAK Stated in an email with me this; I do not beleive [HOOTERS] would do well for CAK.

Air Tran will fly RFD to ATL and MCO within a year.

AirTran will never look at RFD or serve RFD when they are already in MKE and MDW.

I remember when TWA 727 had flight from WORD and Ozark has DC flight from WORD, DEN STALE.

Where the hell does the RFD Airport authority get all this money? Millions to UA, now these vouchers and cash guarantees. Someone's got to be unwillingly paying the tab for all this, because it's a little out of hand for an airport that small. It's not like we're talking ORD here.

In my book, if the money is coming from UPS then you have something the FAA calls revenue diversion and that is a no no. I think the Feds will be taking a look at this whole situation very soon. The money to Northwest for the DTW service is about out and I would expect that service to halt in April 2006. Why would someone but a ticket on Hooter's if the airport is going to give out incentives to make sure you book Hooter's. By the way, NO WAY on AirTran.

Yep. And to that extent, if I was UPS I'd quietly start to divert traffic to other more friendly airports. Considering UPS is by far the biggest revenue source up there... they're getting screwed royally when the money they bring in is being spent on other things besides improving the airport facilities. There's always room for improvement. Anything from some asphalt to a new deicing truck would be better for UPS than RFD giving away every last penny to chase a few RJ's and 732's into town.

As a student, I haven't been introduced to the concept of Revenue Diversion. Thanks for exposing me to it.

I did some research on it, and I came across an article about it from the AOPA: http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/region/revenue.html

This paragraph struck some interest:

In accordance to federal law, revenues generated by a federally obligated airport must be expended for the capital or operating costs of the airport. The reasons for this are evident. First, the federal government wants to protect its investment at the airport. Second, it is in everyone's interest to see an economically healthy airport that is able to operate efficiently. In addition, if an airport uses the revenue it generates according to the law, the balance between what the airport charges its users, and what they use is maintained. It would be totally unacceptable for an airport to increase its rates and charges to users and then use those increases in airport revenues to fund an off-airport, non-aeronautical project such as a city park.

You being the Airport Director for Quad Cities Regional, I was wondering if you could explain to a novice how Revenue Guarantees would be considered as "non-aviation".

I doubt Airtran will serve there. It already a close proximity in the area such as Chicago Midway, Mitchell, Bloomington/Normal,Moline. What more? Airtran is expanding at Midway so it no time to get involve with RFD.

Northwest to Detroit. Still flying???

Re: Loisencroach on revenue diversion please check out the following information that you can obtain on the FAA webpage. The information will answer alot of your questions on how airport revenue can be spent. For example, you can use airport revenue for promotional and marketing expense to help the airline but not to be used to guarantee the bottom line on the airline making money. Their has been a lot of discussion in Congress about revenue diversion and I am sure there is information on web pages to further discuss this topic.

(For corrective action purposes, however, FAA will consider whether a non-sponsor and the sponsor's legal ability to avoid paying the fee imposed the fee, and whether such fees may be appropriate where the sponsor must take action in connection with airport development.); · loans of airports funds to a state or local agency at less than the prevailing interest rate; and · direct subsidy of air carrier operations (non-discriminatory waivers or discounted landing or other fees during a promotional period would not be considered diversion or a violation of the requirement for a self-sustaining rate structure).

How does RFD violate the terms defined in the last sentence?
