Delta Business Class LGA To ATL?

Sat Nov 26, 2005 2:59 pm

This baffles me, as to many other trivial seemingly inconsequential things, but being that I have lots of time on my hands tonight, I was perusing the Delta schedule for several dates next year and came up with business class on an MD88 from LGA to ATL, flight #134 departing LGAat 6 pm. Looking at the seat map, its the regular first class set up but then why is the cabin class designated as a business class cabin?

Interesting. DL1741 from ATL-LGA also shows business but it is on a 767-300 which only shows a seatmap for domestic First as well. I'm not sure what is happening though. Perhaps a way to charge more for a ticket but the prices looked the same.

Has to do with the flight number. The system still recognizes flight numbers 1-199 as BusinessElite configured aircraft.
As with DL1740/1741. It is a through flight that goes to/from BZE. Despite the aircraft change it is still sold as C class. DL871/912 go to/from CCS after ATL, DL61 continues to GIG.
There is no difference between F/C domestically and there is no price difference for a domestic leg. However there is a drastic difference between F/C on an international leg.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

It makes sense, just seems odd.

On another note, DL flights from ATL to HNL are with 764's. Up front is sold as first class but when I flew first class I remember a seat that wasn't your standard first class Delta seat (not sure if it was a biz elite seat) as well as fold away PTV's in each seat. Do you get a business class seat on the 764 first class ATL to HNL?

Not 100% sure, but I believe that single BizE seat has been added to avoid any crew rest issues for the pilots, particularly on the ATL/CVG-Hawaii flights.

No, DL have standard Domestic First Class seats on the DL764's. However, I do know that seats 7E/F have a lot of extra leg room as these are normally used as crew rest.

The only aircrafts in DL's fleet with BizElite seats are the 763ER and the 772ER's, used on all International Routes (and some internal US domestic flights, in order for aircraft rotation.)

If you take a look at this 764 picture, showing the standard domestic First seats, you can see seats 7E/F (last row, on the left, near window) clearly have alot more extra space between the seats in-front... Maybe this is what you saw?

To compare, shown in this below picture are the BizElite seats used on both DL's 763ER and the 772ER's.

I'm sure you'll agree that the Domestic First and the BizElite seats can easily be distinguished from each other.

Interesting. I noted the same some days ago. And the 7pm flight is a B757 with First and no Business class.

I dont know why DL sells its domestic business class as First.

Is DL First much better than a normal domestic business class?

Good question.

Tks for the interesting info.

DL does not have a domestic business class, only a domestic first and coach.

DL does not have an international first class, only a Business Elite and coach.

The Business Elite was designed to be an upscale international business class when international First class was abandoned by DL.

DL's Business Elite is much nicer than their First Class.

When a Business Elite aircraft flies on a domestic route, the Business Elite seats are treated as F seats in pricing and service, but designated as Business Elite as that is what the official cabin configuration is.

DL's Biz Elite aircraft are all 777s, most 767-300s (soon to be all 767-300s), and soon some 767-400s they are switching to international routes. Presently all 767-400s are configured with domestic First.

All 757s are either equiped with all coach (the Song aircraft, soon to be outfitted with a domestic First Class) or with a domestic First class/Coach configuration.

I hope this answers your questions.

I am aware of this my friend, I was just wondering why it comes up on some flights as a business class cabin on some domestic flights.

Also, I flew DL first class to HNL. I remember it was a regular 1st class seat but as best as I could recall, the 1st class seats had the fold away PTV's for each seat.

As a side note: Just flew DL 777 flight 44/43 CVG - CDG business elite and I have nothing but the highest of compliments and praise for the flight attendtants, the service and the overall hospitality of the staff. way to go Delta. Seat was very comfortable, roomy and clean.

Hi Jumbo,

My answer was more directed toward our friend from the Netherlands, as he seemed confused.

I don't remember the 764s having PTVs in F, but I might be wrong as most of my flights are on 763s and 777s.
