British Airways Still Operating 2 B747-200's?

Sun Nov 27, 2005 9:23 am

Hey,

Whilst doing a search for BA in http://www.aerotransport.org and it says that a B742B and a B742C are still in operation yet there are no BA B742 photos in the database.

Anyone got any idea?

Thanks
Mike

Only thing I can think of is the cargo arm. Global supply systems

I foned my friend at BA maintanance at GLA and asked him, he seems to think that there stored at Cardiff , maybe for cargo conversion but not for passenger use, only 400 series in use according to contact.

BA has not operated the 742 in pax service for a few years now, but I think that they still own two of the type which are stored and likely would be sold if a buyer could be found. Its unlikely that these aircraft, dating from the late 1970s, will ever see revenue service again - my guess is that they will be scrapped at some point.

These may relate to aircraft leased to European, which are still on the books as belonging to BA, due to that company's financial troubles.

I thought exactly the same thing at first, but it seems that aside and apart from the BA 742s that went to European, BA owns two of the type which are stored.

If I recall correctly, they were leased to European but repossessed. They may not have flown with the rest of the G-BDX* aircraft that were leased or sold.

They could also be parts trees stored somewhere. I'm sure there are still a couple in the desert somewhere like Mojave.

Just a small point:

All of the 747-200 went to European.

2 were repossed due to monies owed. As part of the deal, BA are due 10% of any sell on fees European get from the sale of the other 747-200.

The 2 BA 747-200 are stored at CWL. In March one operated for the RAF to the Falklands.

I think 1 is strip-stored, and 1 is Operationally ready-stored.....I THINK

So, the reason they are displayed is becuase BA own the aircraft but have them stored?

Thanks
Mike

These three aircraft (G-GSSA, 'SB and 'SC) are 744s.

The only stored 742 that I knew of is still in Basis BA Landor c/s. It is G-BDXA still in store (I believe) at MXJ. But it is owned by Snapdragon not BA.

There are also ex-BA 742s parked at BOH (2 I believe), FZO and Dunsfold and one just being broken up at AMS.

A couple of BA 742s were broken up at CWL, G-BDXC in July 2002 and G-BDXI in July 2003. If there are two BA 742s at CWL still I would like to know which they are. Anyone live that way? Thanks!

According to Cactuswings, G-BDXA was last seen in 2003, and is shown as broken up.
