While we're on the ORD-HKG subject, an AA 777 has recently flown the route. It was the first twinjet to fly a trans-polar route. Apparently, the trip is a longer distance this way, but the winds are more favorable, making for a shorter journey time. Sorry, this is all I could remember. I read the article in the current Airliner World, which is in my locker at work, so I can't refer to it.
