EasyJet Expands Dortmund

Mon Nov 28, 2005 2:55 am

Finally, easyJet will announce an expansion in DTM next week. They will see an additional aircraft based there (the 4th).

Guesses on the new destinations?

Maybe a double daily rotation to BSL, although that might be a little bit too much. A single daily flight would be hard to market to the business community though.

Since DTM is slowly becoming somewhat specialized on Eastern European flights, maybe there a are a few opportunities to be found in that part of our continent?

Hmm, they applied for slots BSL-DUS, so I guess they face this market (DTM-DUS-CGN that is).

They could start a daily flight (like they have done it with HAM and SXF) and then slowly introduce additional capacity.

I guess Nice is coming back as well from DTM?

I want more Easyjet flights to Ljubljana. I don't know if Dortmund-LJ would have any demand. But certainly LJ deserves more links from U2.
Good to see Dortumnd base expanding, nice city if i might say so.

Pax can fly nonstop from Berlin to LJU with U2 and also on JP from FRA and MUC. DTM would be a good route to LJU as the nearby cities of DUS and CGN have large populations that could easily fill a flight.

I don't really know much about the Slovenian or Croatian market to assess, whether there is a chance for a U2 flight from DTM to this region. It is quite obvious though, that most of the "conventional" destinations in Central or Western Europe have already been covered very well from our Nortrhine-Westphalian home market, so if U2 really want to maximize their chance of success, they have to look for something, which has not yet been covered by AB, HLX and 4U.

Wizzair is steadily increasing their presence in DTM after a humble start only one or two years ago. Nowadays, they are flying twice daily to Kattowice, and daily to Gdansk, Warsaw and Wroclaw - so there is a market to Eastern Europe from this region after all.

IIRC, LTN is served by a LTN-based a/c - so maybe they are just switching the LTN route to a DTM-based aircraft in the morning and evening (although this would result in a 7ish pm departure from LTN), re-introduce NCE at noon-time and add a destination in Poland or Southern Europe in the afternoon ?

This route is served by a DTM based aircraft - the A319 which LTN doesnt have yet!

OK, I see. I seemed to remember that one of the DTM-routes is served from another base, but obviously I am wrong.

Anyway, it would seem logical that most of the capacity will be used initially to up frequency on some of the routes to southern Europe that have been reduced or chopped for this winter, while additional (non-leisure) destinations might be introduced for winter 06/07.

No, but Malta airport is looking for an airline serving this route at the moment (apart from the Air Malta and HELLO charter flights). So it will be an option for easyJet...

There are a lot of rumours about easyJet in BSL at the moment, obviously they will announce a further expansion soon. According to easyJet, they would like to expand existing destinations ex BSL by offering same day returns. Their goal is to get 20% business travellers ex BSL.

Other rumours I have heard:

BSL-MXP
BSL-ORY 4x daily
BSL-DTM very hot

Hope this helps!

Almost impossible, they have no free slots in ORY, but may be some more flights to CDG.
To any North American carrier, send us a regular flight in MRS !!!!!

BTW Bologna doesn't appear to have a destination airport on the booking engine of easyJet.com perhaps it won't be back for summer.

But not all the slots that were left vacant by Air Liberté have been allocated...

I don't think they can get some more, they had to close ORY-MRS (was twice daily) to open 2 new italian destinations.

This rumour came up after several media reports in French newspapers. People simply prefer ORY, especially business people. Air France offers this route 7x daily.

I agree about the slots but obviously they are working on that...

easyJet today announced that they will increase services on existing routes with the fourth aircraft based in DTM and that Nice will see a comeback.

Another (new) destination or even more "could be announced in the next weeks".

I am pretty sure that something like this would never happen to AF at ORY or in fact any other airport in France...
