Iranian Govt Receives VIP A321

Mon Nov 28, 2005 6:02 pm

I saw the delivery ceremony on state television. Interesting that there was no officials were at the ceremony and no journalists were allowed inside, I guess they did not want anyone to see the opulence of a govt aircraft while the new President is ‘huffing’ and ‘puffing’ about eradicating poverty.

In any case isn’t an A321 unusual VIP aircraft I would have thought they go for an A319CJ like everyone else? Also interestingly the report said the aircraft was delivered from Switzerland so maybe not a direct purchase from Airbus?

This is NOT a new A321.
This is EP-AGB C/N 1202 ex Livingston I-LIVC , and before Monarch G-OZBD.

My question is why would they have no problems purchasing a second hand Airbus for the Government but find it extremly hard getting parts for the fleet for Iran air?

I think it was Bluewings, not GermanWings.
Bluewings had parked 3x ex LH ex Sabena A330 in Cologne
Aircraft are marginal costs with wings.

I would say it is a safe guess to say yes, this aircraft does indeed have fuel tanks. Otherwise that whole flying about buisness would be much more tricky!

Does anyone have a shot of this airplane, I caught a glimpse of an A-320 series landing in EWR last night and I had never seen the scheme and I was wondering if this may have been it.

And yet the UK still can't get their own VIP jets without a fight...

Differernce between Iran and the Uk is that in Iran the govt can spend what it likes on itself there is no strict scrutiny of public spending like there is in The UK.

Any idea who did the interior?

The interior has been made by SOGERMA at Bordeaux.

Given current US-Iranian relations I think that you can be reasonably sure that the A320 series aircraft that you saw was not owned and/or operated by the Iranian government. Just a hunch.  Smile

I don't understand the big deal. Iranian government has an old 737-286A that needs replacement. Iran is a large country and officials need to travel around. Don't blame Iranian gov't for the state of affair of the commercial fleet. They keeping ordering new aircraft and nothing gets delivered due to the USA embargo (737-400s, A330, etc.) The old OA A300 are fairly new and much more modern than the old types they replaced.
