Mon Nov 28, 2005 11:07 pm

Other than East Asia and South East Asia where does Cathay use the 777? Why no Cathay 777 to the U.S.? Just wondering?
Thanks

The scuttlebutt used to be that CX would only fly quads over the Pacific. That appears to be changing if the rumors are true that they are going to buy 777-300ERs. This would almost certainly mean we would see them in the U.S.

CX's 777-200s are the inital A types (non-ER) and hence does not have the range to do long haul operations (such as Europe and N.America). Also, CX's 777s also flies to the Middle East apart from Asian regional route.

I have my doubts that CX--if they order the 777-300ER--will fly them on transpacific routes. A more likely situation is that the 773ER's will allow CX to use the newer planes on long non-transoceanic routes (e.g., HKG-LHR) and CX will then switch its 747-400 fleet to mostly transpacific operations.
