WN Expansion At ISP

Tue Nov 29, 2005 6:12 am

Last week when I flew out of ISP on WN I noticed that they are extending their concourse a lot. It looks like double the size of what they have already. Just by looking at it I could estimate they could probably build about 6-8 more gates. By having that how many more flights do you think they can support. They now have 5 Gates and about 32 flights a day. So what new cities and frequencies do you think they will start/add.

I am sure ISP will become a pretty big city for WN later on.
(I do have about 2 pictures of the new terminal that I can post and 2 of the existing terminal if an wants to see)

I'd like to see em, send em my way please. Well, i think WN can do about 15-20 FPD out of one gate. so for them to have 5 for 31 flights, leaves them alot of room to grow as it is. Also, are you sure it is WN who is building this extention? and not ISP? Maybe ISP is growing and more airlines will begin service? B6? We'll see i guess. I'd like all the info you have on it.

When the WN plan came out a few years ago they were going to build four gates, knock down the old east concourse and build four more in the other direction. I think that is what you are seeing now.

As for the old west concourse, I believe that is staying. But keep in mind, for every WN flight that has been added, other airlines have cancelled flights.

Delta, Delta Express, USAir, American, American Eagle, and Spirit have all left. And more recently Continental Express left and DL Conn scaled back ops.

The gates are for WN so I guess that is what it is. Yea the terminal can still get more flights out of what it has already. They seems to fill up at peak times and be deserted in between. So hopefully more flights in between.

Yes.

Not that many, 12 at the max pretty much. Most there cities have 9-10 out of one gate, with some a couple less.

Here are the facts,

Southwest has four gates at ISP and are adding four more. They have stated they can operate over 100 flights a day out of ISP when the gates are complete. Whether or not they add that many is to be seen. Southwest is dropping Nashville from the ISP schedule on Feb 5th, but adding flights to MDW at the same time. With the added flights to MDW and the almost hourly flights to BWI connecting isn't required in BNA anymore. I wouldn't be shocked to see RDU added another flight to LAS, and added flights to Florida. If Katrina didn't hit New Orleans I believe they would have been added as well. Also if DAL is set free you'll be sure to see DAL added.

With WN being such a small player in the huge NYC market, I am surprised that they have no built ISP up more. I never could understand the BNA flights, becuase they are an O/D airline, and it dosent seem like there is that much demand from ISP to BNA. There are some other cities where I am stunned there is no N/S service from ISP, these cities are: HOU, PHX, RDU, STL, IND, DTW, DEN. Any thoughts on these cities. I would add LAX/OAK as well, but its probably pushing it a little with the short runways at ISP.

Yea my last flight on them was ISP-BWI-RDU-BWI-ISP and the BWI flights to great for them but the ISP-RDU traffic is ok I guess. I was in a group so I don't know if it could have been booked up more since we took up a good amount of seats along with some other groups. But they probably can have like 2X RDU.

I can't wait to see the addt'l 4 gates they are adding. Does anyone know when they'll be done? Also, does anyone know if they are adding anymore shops or anything with the new extension?

I'm hoping for JAX, RDU, LAX, DEN, PHX, and HOU.

And WN didn't run DL, DLEX, AA, and US Air out of ISP. All of them but DLEX left before WN started ops. at ISP. DLEX left ISP because Song was phased in. They decided not to re-start service to ISP. But COEX, American Eagle, and the cut-backs of DL Conn. are due to WN.

Also, do you think that with all of these expansions we will see a parking garage in the future or some more luggage conveyor belts? Do you think WN will snatch up American Eagle and COEX's old check-in counters?

BNA has a lot of connecting available, but not near what MDW has.

I guess I could see PHX, RDU, HOU and STL maybe, but IND, DTW, and DEN seem unlikely

Probably, and it ties up an aircraft most of the day. I would say those are unlikely.
