Oplan Bojinka/Operation Bojinka

Tue Nov 29, 2005 7:10 am

Does anyone on this forum know of any additional information in regards to Oplan Bojinka aka Operation Bojinka from 1995? From what I have been abe to research the plot largely targeted United Airlines, and was based on flights with an origination in the Asia/Pacific region. It was also to have an impact on Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines in their Asia operation. Is there anymore of a detailed report anywhere as to the intended flights and reasoning behind the plot?

Below I have compiled the United Airlines flights that were to be effected by Oplan Bojinka in 1995.

United Airlines 806: Hong Kong to San Francisco
747-400

United Airlines 808: San Francisco to Seoul to Manila
747-400

United Airlines ?: Singapore to Hong Kong to Los Angeles
747-400

United Airlines ?: Taipei to Narita to San Francisco
747-200

United Airlines ?: Taipei to Honolulu
747-100

United Airlines ?: Bangkok to Taipei
747-400

United Airlines ?: Los Angeles to Narita to Hong Kong
747-200

Kahala- You'll get yourself branded a conspiracy kook by mentioning this.

I've referred to Bojinka numerous times in the roundabout discussions of TWA 800, and how there was a large body of evidence that suggested a terrorist attack was imminent but categorically ignored by the US government.

Do a Google search for it, you'll find enough stuff, believe me.

Between Bojinka and Able Danger, it's a wonder heads haven't rolled, because they certainly should.

That night in 1996, I had a good number of friends in the Hamptons, that still to this day say something else happened.. Of course to today we still have not heard of one single other flight that "imploded" inflight!

USAF has had this happen to them several times, which is why they had the fuel tank inerting systems long ago on some airframes. How about we just apply Ockham's Razor to the situation?

Because Occam's razor doesn't apply well here, unless the most likely scenario is, in fact, a shootdown. Having all that kerosene accidently explode is certainly easier to swallow....but is it the truth?

Good job Kahala....I am glad to see a well respected member touch on this topic a little more.  thumbsup

I have seen the flights listed and your correct the plot was to include UA,DL,NW, and CO I will see if I can dig up the flight numbers and the equipment. I know most of the planes were going to be 747's with either one or two CO or NW DC-10's

As far as the reasoning, the terrorist wanted to blow up 12-14 aircraft over the pacific and kill 1000's of innocent people. They also wanted to assassinate the Pope and President Clinton during a visit to Manila.

That was the other thing, that I had forgotten. Were the hijacking to be before or after the attempts at the lives of the two World leaders?

For some reason I want to say that it was all going to be done the same day.

Wonder if that date was similar to 9-11, did the date have a certain meaning?

I guess the question would now be, if that had actually come into reality what would the effects have been?

-Asian tourism collapse?
-US airlines boycotted around the World?
-World aviation coming to a hault?

I was going to suggest the article on wikipedia.org, but Zone1 beat me to it. Very informative, I had never heard of Bojinka before I read the article. The article refers to one Delta, three Northwest flights, and multiple United flights.

Was American Airlines at the time only serving Seattle, San Jose, and Dallas from Tokyo?

Was Continental Airlines presence at the time limited to only Continental Micronesia flying?

I don't think so I think just like 9/11 it was a convenience for the attack to take place on that date.

It's also worthy to note that this was to be a two part attack with the second half targeting infrastructure in the United States.
