First A380 Service(s)?

Tue Nov 29, 2005 10:20 pm

With all the delays it is hard to keep up with who will be the first operator(s) ..
Was supposed to be SQ / EK coming into LHR ... what about now ? Are there any airlines that have not delayed ?

The first operator will be SQ. The first revenue flight is expected to be in early 2007. The latest plan is to begin with SIN-SYD in retaliation for QF's opposition to granting SQ rights to fly SYD-LAX. SIN-LHR (SQ317/322) will be the next route.

The original plan had been to begin with SIN-HKG and then expand to SIN-HKG-SFO (SQ1/2), but doubts have reportedly arisen over the WhaleJet's ability to fly nonstop SFO-HKG year-round with a viable payload.

Really?! SQ is expected to receive the first A380 in November 2006.
Will they wait 2 months until the first delivery flight?!

Just some data for comparison purpouses:

777 first delivery:05/17/95 first comercial service: 06/07/95 --> 21 days
747-400 first delivery: 01/26/89 first comercial service: 02/09/89 --> 14 days

This is from the boeing website.... I don't have time by now to look up for data about airbus planes... But anyway.... 2 months between first delivery and first comercial flight seems a bit too long ot me... I may obviously be wrong though!  Wink

Earliest possible delivery is said to be the last week of November. There is still a chance that first revenue service might be late December, but I would bet against it. Remember, proving for the WhaleJet will be more complicated than it was for the B777 because of the special taxi procedures required by its size.

SQ SIN-LHR then LHR-SIN-SYD

QF MEL-LAX then SYD-LAX
When all's said and done, there'll be more said than done.

If it's in the end of November it's easy to understand.

And yes, the A380 must take longer than the B777 took. Maybe not that longer... but longer nonetheless.

It's just like you said... maybe in the end of December... let's just not put too much hopes in it, so that we won't get disappointed  Wink
