Qatar Airways Route News

Thu Dec 01, 2005 1:41 pm

The following are some updates on Qatar Airways (QR) and their future route plans:

- 7 x A330-200s to Hong Kong later upgraded to A330-300s
- Melbourne
- 3 x Madrid
- 4 x Berlin

Further details can be obtained from http://www.aaco.org/pubnews.asp?id=897&lang=1

Melbourne is interesting as QR has been considering servicing this city for a number of years. There was a major announcement from both the Victorian Government and QR with large media coverage yet still no services. They haven't even mentioned frequencies or aircraft to be used.

I heard a rumour that they have shelved Melbourne for now because of the low yields with their existing fleet.

Plans were underway in 2005 to start flights to Lagos, Nigeria (LOS) by Q1 of 2006. This is according to inside sources. Look out for an announcement soon.

The increased Indian capacity is not permanent. It is is due to the "winter open skies" by the India govt. Services will come back to normal levels by Feb06 (unless govt extends the "open skies").
