Heads Up: US 757 To Get New Livery On The 4th

Fri Dec 02, 2005 9:36 am

Coming this 4th (Dec.), a US-east 757 will head to the shop to get the new livery. Should look good.

Actually I hear it will be N626AU and as far as routings no one will know till it leaves the paint shop in mid-Dec. It is a non overwater equipped bird so don't expect to see it in SXM.

Why would they paint 623. They just put that in Star colors not that long ago. I rode on 623, seemed like a nice airplane.

I agree. That seems stupid and a waste of an opportunity to paint a plane that really needs to be converted from the US or HP livery. There are some pretty bad looking US planes out there.

It fits much better on the 67s then on the narrow bodies. I'll be excited to see how the 757 looks in it.  bouncy

Since it's non-water equipped, is there a chance we could see her in PVD? I'd love to see it in person.

Little boi --- you're WAY too young to even begin to know what i mean by any of this. I worked for US for the entire 90s decade. Why dont you ask your "former USAirways pilot Dad , currently proudly flying for Mid-Altantic in the EMB-170" (according to your profile) what "Crystal City" was. And maybe he can help you with the first statement too - - it might involve a little Photo-Search research here on A.net. Cmon .. you can do it !

I know what "Crystal City" is. I probably know more about US than you do. So what if you worked at the express division in the 90's. US has drastically changed, and you know nothing about it anymore. Seems like you are a disguntled former employee who needs to get a life.

You are completely wrong. The livery was made in Tempe, designed in-house by America West's marketing department which saved millions of dollars by not hiring some New York-based marketing consultant . It was also imperative to convey a new corporate image to the public.

I've grown up and moved on to bigger and WAY better things - like owning my own business. Trust me - working as a Customer Service Agent Supervisor for an airline (any airline) is not my idea of a dream job. I'm not disgruntled in the least - I was treated very well by USAirways Group And I did work for wholly owned subsidiaries Allegheny and Piedmont (PDT took over our station from ALG so we merged into PDT re: seniority and pay), so I' was every bit as much a US employee as your pilot father is/was with mainline or at Mid-Atlantic. I have a tremendous amount of fondness for my memories of the predecessors (Allegheny, Mohawk, PSA, Piedmont, to name a few) of the current conglomeration. But through the late 80s right up to the current day, this company's management has made some INCREDIBLY stupid mistakes (Steven Wolf, for one ... another would be buying PSA then completely dismantling their entire system after WN mopped the floor with them - and doing nearly the same with Piedmont's), and combined with things like the numerous crashes in the 90s, the numerous Chapter 11 filings,it became a real embarassment. And still is. This is no "winning team".

My opinions stand - this merger was a last ditch effort by two sad carriers with crap reputations bribed and basically being supported by an aircraft manufacturer desperate to fly as many of their planes as possible under Boeing's nose (I'm talking about Airbus, for those of you who couldn't figure that one out). The only good thing I can even posibly say is that the lesser of the two bad management teams are running it now. And that's still not saying much.

Just look at how many investors put money into the new US. Airbus was just a small piece of pie. That means that a lot of people saw something that they liked.

The Airbus investment was, while not small in and of itself, only a fraction of the new company's investment.

Only a fraction, but the biggest fraction. Other companies including Air Canada also threw money in but Airbus was by far the largest contributor.

SOAC is right about a number of things....I don't see why so many people are jumping down his throat!

US/HP are not two poor airlines making a last ditch effort, as F27XXX likes to point out. I'm pretty sure Continental also had a very bad rep until Gordo took over....why not hold judgement for a bit, lets see what happens.

This is true--I live in Houston and I use to avoid Continental like all hell--I didn't fly them from 1985 till 1994--I was a loyal Delta flyer until DL service went down and CO service went up. Now I just about fly CO at any chance.

US is a great airline, albeit with some problems. The merger will hopefully give them a fresh-breath and an opportunity to succeed.

As for the topic of this thread -- I vote no more comments until anyone can post a picture of this elusive N626AU in new livery.

I'm a fan of the US 752s and commuted on them BOS-PHL for a while. I imagine we won't get this one in BOS for a while though since it is not an overwater aircraft and most of the 752s that go BOS-PHL continue on to the carribean.

If you're referring to the 757 that is getting the NC, which this thread was about a long time ago about 3/4 up the page, than there can't possibly be any pics. Why? It only went in to the paintshop 2 days ago. We're going to have to give them a little while to actually strip and repaint the plane first.

When it rolls out, I'm sure there will be plenty of pics out there. Give it another week yet.

USAirbus, er, i mean USAirways could have done it on their own?  rotfl

Flying what? With Boeing pretty likely to laugh in their face, ya maybe they could have made it on their own. Lets see .. as an all Dash8-100 airline, maybe? Or else maybe the whole airline woiuld become Mid-Atlantic with Embraers and US would just end up as someone else's Express carrier.

Or - even more humiliating, AirWisconsin would take them over entirely.

USAirways still here today were it not for Airbus? Ummmm sorry, NOPE!

Why do you have to drag Air Wisconsin into this? We are not a bad airline. Everyone in PHL and most of the outstations all state that we have a much better operation going on right now...a few growing pains but much better than Mesa, Trans States, and CHQ......US Airways could have come out of this without Airbus....don't think others would not have invested.

Oh, FYI, if US hadn't gone with Airbus, they would have most definately gone with Boeing, like their original plan was.

So I don't cause confusion, I am talking about the 90's, when US ordered all the Airbuses.

Most definately not, and we are glad to have you instead of YV.

I remeber that, we went to Boeing and said we need X number of long haul A/C and X number of 737NG by this date. Boeing couldn't deliver so we went to Airbus.

The painting process for an a/c is a little more complicated than painting your house. It can take 10-15 days to strip and repaint the a/c. I would expect pics to start showing up around the 12th or 13th.

I do apologize for that - i worded that incorrectly - - Air Wis is a terrific carrier - - i very definitely shld have used MESA for that 'what if?'.
I was just trying to get across the idea of US mainline being taken over by one of its Express carriers. No offense to ZW intended, please believe me. ZW's always been a class act! And always will.

USAirbus, on the other hand .... oy vey.
I'M BAAAAAAAACK!
