Geography Lessons With Aeropostal (Fun!)

Sat Dec 03, 2005 3:58 am

I was just checking the website from Aeropostal and was surprised to find a routemap:

Can anyone find a city that is placed correctly ?
The only ones are CCS, HAV, SDQ and LIM.
Not even the domestic cities are correct. Not even CCS !
Just MAR and SVZ are more or less OK. Not to mention that they don`t operate STD any more.....
I think the funniest are BOG on the international and BLA on the domestic one !

MAD looks a bit to far West too....maybe it's moved to Portugal.....

Should be more central.

MIA hmmmm..... looks like there going to Imm!!!!!

As for South America....

And I thought Barcelona and Valencia were in Spain...... (just a joke)

I'd say it's on a par with most peoples geographic education in US High schools.

Jajaja its so true! How sad......

Look at Lima, like after Arequipa and away from the coast, and Bogotá, one of the highest andean cities, in the Colombian amazon!

I think they put Guayaquil in northern Peru and Quito must be a little up-north, Bogotá replaced Tabatinga (hahaha) and Madrid was moved to Extremadura!.

Lima is a cost city and I think is a little up-north as well, I see Lima there like halfway between the correct Lima and Arequipa.

I might be wrong anyway but oohhh fun!

Port of Spain is closer to San Juan or St.Thomas or St.Maarten than it is to Trinidad and Tobago.

Lima is most definitely not correct. It may be placed in Peru, but is too far south to be properly situated.

Ya but even on the old printed route maps you'd see in airline timetables (remember those?!), things were usually distorted .. theyre really just to give an impression or their network. Misprints do occur, though .. i have an old PA map where the dot for BDA is almost in Portugal and NYC's is about where ACK is! LOL

I did notice one thing on their domestic map. You pointed out that Barranquilla (Colombia) was out of place .. but actually that city is Barquisimeto (Venezuela) if you look very closely at the name. So Aeropostal gets back some credit here!

The blue border and name cities are from the Aeropostal Map. The map below is a "real" map from SouthAmerica. Red dots show the real location of the cities..  Smile

Not really, as the place they put BRM is between the Andes and the Maracaibo Lake, looks more like Valera. Barquisimeto is where you have the "V" from their Valencia. (They put Valencia where Caracas is....anyway).

I feel sorry for you RICARIZA that they put BOG to Iquitos. But this is also a nice place.....  duck

About MAD, it`s not only that it is too far west, but mainly because whole Europe has moved south. So for me it is too close to Dakar !

Well, if we are going to laugh at airline route-maps, we should might as well include Avianca's one here:

http://www.avianca.com/ParaViajeros/...stinos/DestinosInternacionales.htm

While the situation may not be as critical as with Aeropostal, they do have a couple of cities that seem to be a bit lost.

If Aeropostal failed when locating LIM too far south, Avianca confused it more like with Trujillo.

For Avianca, Mexico City is located just a few miles from Veracruz, Fort Lauderdale near Jacksonville, and both Caracas and Quito lost as well.

......I hope their pilots are better in geography! At least they located those cities on the correct continents Big grin
