New JAX Service?

Mon Dec 05, 2005 12:46 pm

It has been awhile since I heard any news on new KJAX air service. I know that Eagle started new service to KORD. Does anyone know how thats going? I know Chatauqua flies some ERJS down to FLL now too, but that doesnt seem to be going well since I am receive weekly announcements of sales on that route. Any new service that could occur in the new year?

Actually, the RP flights are going very well from load numbers. They usually carry a 90% LF, but are also low yield. Although slow through the fall, they have since had ERJ's reinstated for all flights except one, which is still an ER3.

Unless they can wrangle a gate away from US Airways or connect their own jetway to the end of B Concourse, they will have a hard time finding a place to park, unless they want to pay the outrageous parking fees to use the international gates. But as far as ground boarding, UA has taken control of almost all spaces at the end of B.

I am sure you know more than I do because I have only flown out of JAX twice within the last 8 months or so, but IIRC, the gate right beside Indy is still unused. I did notice that US is starting to use the first gate in B again which is good to see. As a JAX resident, its always exciting to come in late at night and see the airport packed with airplanes.

You need to have that cough checked out. I am sure JAX will find a way to bring jetBlue in and provide them with parking especially considering they will likely be handled by an OAL. Although its a safe bet you won't see any B6 aircraft on A Concourse.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

It's a shame that gate space is unavailable considering how the airport is always dead. During the summer, I spent about 6 hours waiting for a flight (noon-6pm) and there was hardly any traffic at the airport. Additionally, I flew over JAX on many of my training flights at all hours of the day and the airport is sadly...uncongested.

The gate besides Indy is still unused, but if I remember correctly, UA is still holding the lease on that(they had it when UA mainline flew into JAX) and have just been waiting for Indy to die. But, being that they now have 4 RON's at the end of B, they may be content down there. They are all by themselves, and have an endless amount of tarmac to park planes.

I know, its all this winter weather thats getting to me.

But why have B6 come in? You already have WN, DH, and FL, and several non-stops a day to LGA and JFK via DL and EWR via CO, and WN did have an ISP flight that now runs through BNA, I believe. So whats the point of have ANOTHER New York flying airline in there? Unless they are planning on LGB service from JAX, I just don't see the point. And yes, very unlikely you will see any on A, although I'm sure that DL or NW would LOVE to handle them.  Wink I would say the best bet on seeing them would be over on B, as US doesn't make full utilization of their gates except at night.

There shouldn't have been. WN usually has a pretty hopping operation, although I have began to notice during my jaunts through JAX that their numbers are starting to dwindle. Between the hours of 3-7p, A concourse is crazy with DL and NW ops, a couple every hour. But the wierd thing with JAX is that although it is busy, everyone comes in at different times to make it seem not as busy. Its certainly no MCO or LGA, but hey, you take what you can get, right?

Come to JAX between 6am and around 7 to 730am and see it at what I believe to be it's busiest time of day. All of the morning departures going out and all. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe delta has 8 or 9 RON's. NW has 2, US has 4 (give or take 1), CO has 4, FL has 1, DH has 1, UA has 4, WN has 4, and AA has 4 (there was the STL rj that overnited, but sat. morning it wasn't there). That's a total of about 32 aircraft RON in jax. Again I may be wrong be an aircraft or two on a couple of them.

Better service. Lower fares. That's two reasons that come to mind.

I looked at a JAX-JFK ticket in March and DL wanted $316. That's not a terrible fare, but I'll bet JetBlue's advanced purchase fare would probably be at least $100 cheaper.

Not to mention that JetBlue's EMB190's would be vastly superior in customer comfort to DL's CRJs.

I agree JFK service really isnt needed, but we both know the big guys over at JIA dont really put a lot of thought into things. From what I remeber, those people who run JAX are really into that whole LCC thing and are really on the Jetblue bandwagon. They dont really think things through like how DL would react. Case in point, the Fraport fiasco that i predicted would go down in flames.

That was true, but with the reduced flight schedules on Dec. 1, DL RON's have dropped to 7, I believe.

Nice try, but the low fares are already there(WN, FL, DH) and the service is already good, I've done it many times. And the fare you quoted, is one of the highest in the computer, so try not to quote a high priced fare next time.

And thats because you have flown the 190's how many times? With you, again speculation and personal opinions outweigh truth and fact. Thats two things that you have erred on that come to mind. Tsk, tsk.  no

WN doesn't really serve the NYC market. ISP isn't going to cut it.

DH isn't really an LCC and will probably be gone shortly. Plus, with DH you have to connect through IAD.

FL would also require a connection through a congested ATL.

None of the LCC's provide nonstop service to

I picked random dates in March...and the lowest roundtrip fare that came on Delta's website was $316. I can't help it if DL's website is poor.

I've flown on an E170, so I feel pretty comfortable saying the E190 will be superior to the CRJ.
