MX Applies For TLC-MIA/SFO/LAX/JFK/ORD/SAT/LAS/DFW

Tue Dec 06, 2005 10:42 am

Mexicana has filied an application with the US DOT to begin non-stop service from Toluca to Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Antonio, and Dallas, using a mix of A320 and 757 aircraft. Their application, however, was very bare, suggesting that while applying for the routes, their actual intentions of servicing them may not be as solid. I could definitley see them going for MIA/LAX-TLC, though, in the near future. Application:

I wonder how much of this is an attempt by Mexicana to simply counter the LCCs like Interjet more then truely a wish to service the Mexico City suburbs.

TLC btw is Toluca.

It is the secondary airport for Mexico City. In fact, until recently, TLC and MEX authorities were combined (so if an airline had the route authority for MEX-MIA, they also had it for TLC-MIA). MEX and TLC are 33 miles apart.

That's exactly what it is. They are OK with the LCCs starting services from TLC to other Mexican destinations, but they want to deter the LCCs from even thinking about TLC to the USA. my opinion

Isn't TLC about 300m higher than MEX and a high-hot airport?
To the services out of TLC, airlines should use their equipment wisely I think.
TLC > SFO, LAX, ORD, JFK are sure gonna have some take-off restrictions.

It seems MX wants the rights for those routes to keep mexican LCC outside the profitable US-México marktet.

Interjet business plan does not include international destinations for the first three years. They want to concentrate in the domestic market first. But you are correct, Mexicana wants to counter new Mexican entrants into their territory, the Mexico-USA routes.

The only problem is that Aviacsa is miles ahead and giving them a hard time from MTY... Apparently, the don't want to give another airline the chance to do what 6A did from MTY... tough times ahead!

According to this, the longest runway is 13,780 feet. Even at 8466 feet in elevation (2580 meters, which is 350 meters or 1,150 feet higher than MEX at 7300 feet), that should still be more than sufficient length for most planes.

Not a problem for a 757 - is there any airport that plane can't get into? Shouldn't be too much of a problem for anything else, either.

It will be interesting to see how TLC develops!

I think part of the plan for the international destinatios, is mainly to get some planes out of MEX, also, the ethnic travellers, lot´s of them (LAX) are not inbound to MEX, but for EDOMEX, CVJ, and, instead of arriving at MEX and taking the 2hr bus, why not bring them to TLC directly?

6A beat AM and MX in MTY, but now with the new owners and new plans for MTY, we will see some good things for MX in MTY, also, 6A mainly uses MTY as a hub for conections, not originating flights.

As for TLC, Click will begin TLC-CUN-HAV-CUN-TLC next thursday, and maybe expect more frames for them.

As far as the destinations, I think they will go for most of them, except SAT and DFW.

I am glad that TLC is getting some action. It is rather close to MEX and would alleviate some of the traffic in MEX. The airport is rather high TLC one of the highest in Mexico. Just one question, these airports are always called hot and high airports in Mexico, but whenever I go to TLC, it feels rather cold to me. Lows in the nights around now are well in the 30's F. Please explain.

A myth! TLC's gets everyday a Dc10 or A300 operation and once in a while it gets B742F service! No problem! And less if we are talking about short hops for the A320... TLC-USA flights seems to me perfect to deploy an A318... wonder if we will see a new order batch for them...! Wonder what might be of MX F100s once retired!! Sure Click, if still survives for that time we could for now consider it as a strong option to become an A318 operator in order to have commonality with it's big sister.

InterJet's not... but BIG YES for Vuela which is due to start operations next March 06... after a year of operation they will go International...

What still uncertain and a shame, will be TLC's crappy, old, rusty, dusty, small, cheesy, etc etc etc terminal building!!!!!!

Thanks ghost77, answers my question. By the way, the PBC/JFK service, was it approved yet? I think it was Azteca that wanted it?

De nada!!! I ignore the status but it should be approved by now... ZE has gotten additional frames which could deploy for thinner routes thru it's domestic network and leave the B73G for JFK and others to follow! Recently to more ex. DL's B733s land at MEX, I haven't seen where they have gone to but probably are ZE's too! So, lets wait and see what ZE has now to offer...

Indeed and not only that... it will also be very interesting to see which carriers will be able to make it...!!!
