Mexican Start-up Vuela Orders New Airbus!

Thu Dec 08, 2005 9:25 am

As shown: 2005 Orders (Pt. II) (by Hamlet69 Sep 10 2005 in Civil Aviation) and confirmed by Airbus, New Mexican start-up Vuela went shopping this November for 16 A319!

AFAIK, the wanted to launch flights by March of 2006, probably TA will give some slots they had to Vuela in order to take deliveries on time.

There's still no official PR from Airbus (I think), but I've been told livery will be Black, Purple, Blue and Green!!

Now we will have.. Todo México, es territorio de Vuela...!!!

I'm glad someone is finally using some imagination re: liveries in Mexico. And I am also glade the choice was the all-too beautiful A319  bigthumbsup . Adding to Mexicana and interjet fleets... Maybe Airbus should think of establishing a regional maintenance center in Mexico!

Well, sadly, we still don't know much on this matter!!! But yesterday there was again a confirmation from MX of it's Asia plans for 2007. They will heat and generate demand route thru codeshares with Chinese carriers via LAX and YVR but for mid 2007 MX will fly it's own frames via TIJ, they said they were studying both Boeing and Airbus.... they said they wanted to reinforce EZE and now that MX is part of Posadas I think we will see SCL, GRU and GIG sometime later... I'm sure we will have a mix of A330s/A340-500s or 600s... otherwise a B787/777 mix... but I'm not holding my breath....

IIRC, InterJet will built two big hangars @ TLC for them and third parties OTOH, Vuela has also clear plans to establish a big MX center in TLC.

Talking about Interjet... Im flying next Friday from CUN to TLC... The problem now is that all ready start the flight but the three days was a delete of 3 hours... Suppose to leave 12.40 and its leaving 15.40... Its bad... Also they have a big trouble in CUN because don't have office and front desk at the airport... When I pay my ticket about 45 minutes after I get there... They give me a paper with hand righting of the flight, they don't give me any receive or ticket... Any way... The fact its that I really want to fly on those new planes and land for first time in a commercial flight on TLC...
Lets see what happens and hope to take some good pictures of the plane.  santahat

Hi Ghost and everyone. I m back ,now that TLC and Intrjet are big News.

Do you know where exactly they are going to be build?
It seems that Interjet "nestle" will be inside the OAG lands. May be not far from FedEx facility. The terminal enlargement will be in the opposite direction, and what about the new Control tower? Is it the only remaining building from the original plan for the New terminal @ TLC.
And finally , do you know what s the future of SACSA and AZTECA facilities?

Interjet 20 A320s

Gol's Mexican project is now 'official' http://news.airwise.com/story/view/1133961043.html

Maybe these news will force Aviacsa and Azteca to order more 737s and expand....

Great fares to Havana. Maybe they are due to the fact that Cubana has been running a special for "Cuban" people living in Mexico. I wonder if the fares only apply to Cubans.

Click is already flying between TLC and CUN/HAV. They wanted to challege Interjet, so they started operations this week. I was in TLC on tuesday night and Click has its check in desk ready (using the same as NM and CO).

TLC-CUN is cheap but TLC-HAV is expensive ($310USD roundtrip). You can get better fares to HAV if you buy from a tour operator and use a charter flight (like Magnicharters).

It was supossed to begin Nov01, but got delayed because of the hurricane that hitted CUN, and today is the first flight, it will be TLC-CUN-HAV-CUN-TLC.

Rumors about more Click flights in MTY, also Click is hoping to get more frames; let´s see if they can make it for Airbus frames.

Yes, GOLMex is slowly getting ready too!!! 6A, there's no news, but I really hope to see from them something soon!! They urgently need 757s as 727s replacements and a few B733/5s!!! As for ZE, I think their financial position will force them to keep seeking for B737NGs in the SH market, otherwise I see them continuing expanding with B733s... and once again there's rumors around for the introduction of 2 B757s....

Indeed great way to start... but more than saying it was their choice and a smart decision based on costs, it's clearly visible it totally was a biased decision.... Boeing years ago not only lost TA, they also lost this new order from what it will become a giant in Mexican aviation. With Slim and Azcárraga back-up... enough said... 16 frames it's only the beginning of more...

I just read that article on "Gol Mexico" being officially launched. They are going to be based at TLC too?? How many airlines can TLC hold? The airport will need a new terminal to be able to handle all of these flights. Three new start ups in the same airport in Mexico, sounds very interesting.

It was just a matter of time... TLC is closer (transit time-wise) to the most affluent neighborhoods of Mexico City and its suburbs than MEX, plus Toluca itself an a number of fast growing cities within one-to-two hours driving range. With the longest runway in Latin America [13780 × 148 ft (4200 × 45 m)] and equipped with CAT III(b) (very soon), TLC is a good choice. It's only downside is its elevation: 8466 ft (2580 m), which imposes important lift restrictions. Regardless, MEX is not much lower, laying at a statute elevation of 7316 ft (2230 m). Lift restrictions are not much much better...

I agree with Mexicana757: TLC will definitely need a new terminal building...

If the starters want to succeed in TLC they must really work on keeping the parking fare low in order for a traveler to drive over there instead of taking an expensive, tinny and low-speed cab.

TLC needs investment even without any expansion, its terminal looks in bad shape. I've read several articles about groups investing in TLC airport. One article said $25 mil USD from somewhere, other article said $175 million USD from somewhere else. Here's the latest which says $92 million from EdoMex and the Government.

I was there on tuesday. I took my brother to his NM flight TLC-MAD. Parking fee was MXP$10 for unlimited time. I even asked the cashier about the parking fee for more than 24 hours and she told me that it would be the same MXP$10. Although if I stayed more than 2 days, I would have to speak to the manager...

Good article, pretty much this is mainly what's being going on lately at TLC.

Quote:
So far, the runway has been reinforced, the taxiways have been extended and strengthened, a service road has been opened, new technology enabling better visibility for flight operations has been installed and a new control tower is under construction.

They at least had to start with something... nevertheless, they need to speed up the second runway and a new decent terminal with at least 20 gates!!!

TLC will not be the only airport facing capacity problems.... all groups are in time to reconsider all new investments projects for GDL, MTY, HMO and TIJ., awfully GAP has two of those key mexican airports in list.

Speaking of MTY, it really needs more gates, and aerocars, also more help for low visibility landings, yesterday an MX flight was "parked" 35 minutes in a taxiway because the airport had no gates, no remote positions, no nothing, when finally was sent to a remote stand, another 45 minutes for the aerocar to disembark the aircraft, and another 2 flights (6A and CO ) where delayed because of the same, also with some fog, 6 aircraft went "Go-Around" because there are no more aids for landing in low visibility.

So far, only TLC and SCL in LatinAmerica have invested in Cat III(b) equipment for zero-visibility operations. And I hear TLC's equipment was damaged by a crane upon installation, which will delay its operation start in a few months...

Speaking of CATIII and MTY, yesterday we had a fog so tick you could cut it with a knive, 12 flights cancelled (AM, MX, QA, 5D, 6A, Interjet) one 5D ERJ almost overrun the runway (pretty close call) and 3 go-arounds, the final METAR reports:

How come MEX, GDL and MTY have not yet installed CatIII systems ? During the winter season, delays and cancellations at these airports are the talk of the day. Naturally, such a situation translates into large costs to airlines and the economy as a whole.

Don´t think so, maybe they just added one or two zeros to the bill, but the facilities still the same, even with some paint here and more concrete there or a lot of glass over there, still lot´s of trouble for airlines and passengers.

It is really incredible how even "pin..." airport in europe has better lighting than MEX, or MTY. With the new MAD-MTY flight imagine after flying for 11 hours or more not being able to land because of Fog. I arrived to Geneva (which is of course CAT III) yesterday from PISA airport ( very small airport) and the lighting in this small italian City airport was way better than MTY or MEX . The "do as minimum as possible" strategy is tiresome. In the first place the airport in Texcoco should have been done. A similar thing happened in the construction of several Japanese airports but they were strong enough to overcome the protesters without excesive violence.

Just my 2 cents
