DL New 757 First Interiors

Thu Dec 08, 2005 11:12 pm

Flying on a DL 757 in first tomorrow. Did the first cabin receive the upgrades like the coach cabins did? I flew on one in august and the condition of the first cabin was awful. I was on an MD88 last week which had the upgrades which were nice. thanks!

If they have redone the seats in Coach they will have done the ones up front as well. Don't expect anything fancy though. They just gave them new seat covers from what I can tell. The seats are now a lighter blue but otherwise the same. For some reason the interior seems lighter now also but no major changes.

Part of the refurbishment included new lighting which helps brighten the cabin. Also the lavs have been refurbished to have the fake wood floors, as well as better lighting and more readable signage.

Ah, the fake wood floors. Because I want that homey feeling while I'm contoring myself like a clown in a VW just so I can use the head! Now that you say it I do remember the lights being better. Not sure about the signage though since it didn't seem different to me other than the new stickers I have been seeing that show seat numbers which use a cheesy picture to sow which one is closer to the window.

Depending on the plane (never been able to tell why they do some and not others) the seatbelt/no smoking lights have been replaced with a bright clean white sign transparency, versus the older style, yellow, version.

To me, it almost looks like the light bulbs behind are white LEDs.

It's very clean and modern looking, combined with the brighter cabin lighting.

They are not LEDs, they are cool flourescents.

Is that the same thing as a Cold Cathode tube?

It would explain the clean white look, as that's essentially a mini neon tube.

Out of curiosity, why are some of the planes outfitted with these newer light assemblies, and some left with the older ?

The 757s are more inconsistent in terms of new signage being applied but the MD88s all have the new seat number labels. They are now larger and easier to read - the original intention being that passengers would be able to find their seats quicker, thus speeding up the boarding process, thus allowing for quicker turn times, thus improving efficiency, etc.

About 2 years ago I flew on a Delta 757 to Atlanta. I didn't think the interior was all that bad. I had a window seat though I always find those to be the most roomy. What are they adding in the upgrades?

I flew a DL 757 in F yesterday with the new interior. The wood floors were interesting and the seats were new but nothing special. They just seemed like the old F seats with new leather. The seat signs were bigger, but I can see how some people could find them confusing. I would not call the new interior an upgrade, but a refurbishment.

Apparently, the refurbishment is moving along at a very quick pace. It seems that for the past week, I can't remember a plane(757, MD88) that I've seen that does not have the new interior, with the exception of some 767's, but I've even had one of them come in with it.

But how many times have you gotten on a plane and someone can't tell the difference of which is D and which is F? Some of the peoply flying these days just don't get it and actually need a picture to help them "get it." The plight of the American mind and the dumbing down process we must suffer through. LOL

Personally, I like the new lighting, the cabin is brighter. The new signage I have no feelings on, as it didn't matter to me one way or the other. The lavatories are, well, different floor-wise, and the seats aren't very comfortable for me. Maybe its just because they are new and not broken in, which I'm sure it is, but they just feel hard and boxey, in both First and Coach. The F seats are still very open and wide, but it doesn't feel that the cushioning is there, which is why I always enjoyed the cloth. I was probably expecting a cushy leather seat like some kind of recliner, which an airplane seat is not. So I'm sure its just me and once they get broken in, they will be just as comfortable as before.
