Jobs At FLYI.

Fri Dec 09, 2005 6:12 am

Hi,

Indepence Air in Tampa replied to my resume today. They seem very interested. I know they are not in the greatest condition but any advice about how they are to work for? Do they have any non revenue agreements with other airlines? I know they are up for auction so you could end up jobless even with that. Figure at least some expearience could be gained out of this possibly short term postion.

They'll be luck to stay in business in their current cash flow condition. Some say they may not make the end of the year.....

With the right date, it could be a really hot date in more than one way!  flamed

Msett1, sorry, I couldn't advise. But you might want to try it just for the fun of it. What type of postion? (With the furloughs, I'm not about to guess a pilot of f/a.)

They do not really have any agreements with other airlines. I would apply with alot more stable airline, like lets say Southwest. You will be lucky to get a month of gainful employment with DH. I say put out your resume to other airlines. Do not board a sinking ship.

So no one think its even worth doing for the short time? I just wonder what there is to loose. Its a CSA postion. Also when you go to DC for 3 weeks training, are you able to fly home on weeknds, and non rev?

I think you should go ahead and give it a try. Independence has received several indications of interest to buy the airline as a going concern or invest in the current airline. Tampa is one of Independence's best markets so it would be unlikely that they would pull out. Also, Independence has employee interline agreements with about 50 airlines from small regionals like Cape Air to large international airlines such as Qantas and Lufthansa. Hope this helps.

HUH!? They only operate two flights per day last time I checked. They have done nothing but cut flights out of Tampa since they started.
I would like to see them add flights back to Tampa actually  Smile

Try HP, they welcome newcomers to the industry and the travel benefits are great. Plus, you get to work for an airline with the worst reputation in the industry and if you bust your ass for five years you might even earn a livable wage!

Heck, you might as well give it a shot if it's not going to be your #1 job. The experience will look good on your resume. It might be a way into a more stable airline.

I say go for it.

They actually have lots of interline agreements. The travel benefits are very good. If you have nothing to loose go for it why not. But if you have other offers or a current job that is stable I wouldn't take the risk. I was an FA for them things could be really frustrating sometimes because there was a lot of ingrained inefficiency. Over all though it was a fun place to work and there are lots of great employees especially at the outstations. The outstation employees seemed happier and the stations better run than the IAD hub.

It's a tough call to make. I applied to become a flight attendant, and actually became one in October for DH. In my experience, financial situation notwithstanding, it has been wonderful. The employees are a joy to be around, and we all tend to have a lot of fun, even in the face of adversity. It's like a big family, and perhaps that's a big advantage of working for a small airline. I can't say what it's like for the CSA, as we all have different sets of responsibilities, but the CSA in IAD seem like a pretty friendly bunch (generally). It has only been two months, and some have already thrown the "enjoy it for the 3 months while it lasts" comments in my face, but quite honestly, I have no regrets. It has been a fun ride, and I wish DH only the best.

That said though, the problem is that I got in two months ago, and that was even pushing the envelope...coming aboard now, with all that's going on, may not be a wise decision. If you can, wait it out a week or two, and see what news comes regarding the company. If things sound like they're gonna pick up, then by all means come on over! But don't put all your eggs in one basket...especially when that basket doesn't appear to be the strongest in the market, y'know? All the best to you!

Oh, and as per the nonrev travel, I don't think you're eligible until you've actually been hired (and have received a valid employee number). That's how it was for us, anyway. Cheers!

Also, when you work for an airline, you have station agreements with other airlines at your station, most of the time for free travel. Then you have the intreline agreements listed above.

Give the gig a shot. Its not going to hurt and at the worst, you might get some experience out if it.
