Any one know why VS to JNB Friday 9 December was delayed by 14 hours. Was Scheduled to arrive at 9.15 local time but only arrived at 1.00am local time 10 Dec. Any Ideas would be great thanks. it is their first delay ever this long on the JNB route

The original Aircraft developed a technical problem which could not be rectified before the crew went out of hours. The same crew then operated the flight following required minimum rest on a different aircraft the next morning.

Because of the ground time in JNB this usually has a minimum effect on the return sector.

Most European carriers choose their JNB service to be delayed if one of their long-haul aircrafts does have a technical. Sevenheavy mentioned the reason. You have normally only one segment delayed as most carriers (I think the only exception is KL) do park their equipment during the day.
