Getting To The Seychelles

Sun Dec 11, 2005 1:23 pm

Aside from Air Seychelles, what other major scheduled airlines serve Mahe from either Europe or Canada?

Thanks

Have you flown Condor? If so, what was it like? Is Condor a charter line?

You could fly EK from JFK/europe to DXB and then DXB to Mahe Island. I think AF fly to the Syechelles too, though I could be mistaken.

What airline is EK? Where is DXB?

Air France does only a codeshare with Air Seychelles.

Thanks

EK is Emirates (one of the nicest airlines in the world) Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates.

PS: if you drag ur cursor over the abbrev. oftentimes it will tell you that information.

Tell me you're kidding...

if not... EK is Emirates, based in Dubai [DXB].

You may not have heard of them. They're a relatively small airline, with few aircraft, even fewer aircraft orders. Its an airline that most likely will go bankrupt over the next 12 months, and its inflight service is appauling...

Thanks. I didn't know that about the cursor!

I'm coming from Canada so I guess Condor from Germany would be the best best. Are they a charter line? I know nothing about them.

Why do you not want to go on Air Seychelles and Kenya Airways fly to the Seychelles from Nairobi. Kenya Airways codeshare with KLM so that might be another option.

BA does not, and AF does not. BA may do the odd charter flight, but nothing scheduled. AF only does a codeshare with Air Seychelles.

What can somebody tell me about Air Seychelles? Is it a top-notch airline with a good safety record or more of a third world carrier?

Well I don't know much about the airline except that they operate 767-300ER's on long haul flights to Mahe Island and they have not Ptv's. Because of that I would go on Emirates or Kenya Airways but some people may say that a little screen in the seatback in front of you does not matter. I do not think Air Seychelles is a third world carrier though.

Emirates looks pretty nice but the problem with that is that I'd have to get to New York from Toronto. Adds another leg.

What are their prices like? Are these airlines all pretty much the same in price?

Well I've flown on, at the time at least, 2/3 of their fleet. Flew a brand spanking new 737-700 and one of their 767-300's. Service was very good onboard and on the ground. I would not hesitate to fly with them again, so you should have no concerns with them, and hey, you would be flying a pretty exotic airline.

Pretty wild approach into there(at least from my vantage point in Victoria Harbor some years ago). You head straight for the side of the mountain, then do a sharp 90 degree left turn to final.
Always wanted to see what that looks like out of the front windows.

True, although if you're buying from Canada, it will almost certainly be an Air France ticket, and you'll probably have to go through them to board Air Seychelles (unless you have a clever travel agent, or are enterprising - and likely willing to pay more and construct your own connections).

Qatar Air, another Middle Eastern carrier, also serve the Seychelles. They're not quite as organized as Emirates, from what I hear, although the price might be competitive. Connections aplenty in Europe.

Nor I. They have an excellent safety record. For that matter, "Third World Carrier" is a bit of a slur - some Third World countries have excellent airlines (Ethiopia, El Salvador).

Hey,

I done an Expedia search:

Dates: 14/4/2006 to 28/4/2006

Route:

Outbound
Air Canada YYZ-LHR
Qatar Airways LHR-DOH
Qatar Airways DOH-SEZ

Inbound
Air France SEZ-CDG
Air France CDG-YUL
Air Canada YUL-YYZ

They are the cheapest flights on Expedia. The total cost per person for those flights is £5,833.80. In Canadian Dollers it is $11,857.85 CAD.

Hope that helps.

Thanks
Mike

British Airways used to operate to the Seychelles with a 744, until earlier this year, when the route was cancelled.
BA still operate to Mauritius with a 744 from LHR though.
