Something Happening In Pacific NW USA?

Mon Dec 12, 2005 4:48 am

Hi everyone,

I came out of church this morning, and was talking to a pilot friend. We both happened to look up, and there were large numbers of jet aircraft being held at altitude approximateley over PDX!!! (you could see the racetrack contrails...) It was probably an intersection hold off of BTG, the nearest high altitude VOR.

Anyone know the high altitude Seattle Center Freq for the PDX area? I'll grab a scanner and maybe find out what the holds are for...

Thanks!

Brent

It was foggy in SEA this morning.
It started to burn off about 2 hours ago.
First, benzene in my Perrier, and now this!

go to www.thumper.net/atc.htm

This guy has freqs listed and actually streams live PDX ATC on Winamp. Cool to check out if you have Winamp installed.

It's December and close to a busy travel period, of course it's foggy! Expect localized ice storms and 0 visibility at SEA from 12/24 - 27 (Seattle's annual 'gift' to ATC)!  Wink

yeah, saw the hold pattern and the China Airlines A340 landing this afternoon. Figured SEA was struggling.

Lots of cool stuff in PDX recently!

Yup, looks like it.

An FAA ATSCC advisory (from www.fly.faa.gov):
15:34GMT - REMARKS: THE ZSE WEATHER UNIT IS FORECASTING SEA VISIBILITY TO
REMAIN BELOW CAT I AND CAT II MINIMA UNTIL 2100Z.

Wow. Been a pretty eventful week or so here in Oregon. Too bad I don't live close enough for it to make sense for me to go spotting there regularly.
