767 R-R Engines

Fri Feb 12, 1999 4:57 am

Has any other airline besides BA ever owned or operated 767s with R-R engines? I can't ever remember seeing one that wasn't BA.

The R-R engines that they use are the same as on the 744.

I believe China Southern is the only other airline with RR powered 767.

Other than BA, China Yunnan Airlines is the only other airline that uses RR engine on its 767-300. Personally, I don't understand why Qantas doesn't use RR engine for its 767 fleet, since they already standardized on RR for their 747 fleet. It would save them a lot of money.

As its turned out it is better that Qantas doesnt have is 767-300 fleet powered by RR. Qantas now has 3 747-400 acft 1 from Asiana and 2 from Malaysian
that are GE powered same as the 767 acft.

Actually some charter airlines in europe also ordered 767 with RR engines. One that I can think of is Air Europa. not sure though.
before they also had an order for RR powered MD11.

KL808, I dont think there are any MD-11s with RR engines, if there were, that would be pretty cool with RB.211 engines. I think you meant another plane.

NO MD-11 with RR Engines

There aren't any MD-11 with Rolls-Royce engines. Mickey D actually did design a version on paper but there wasn't enough interest to actually built it.

BA actually takes engines that have been operating on 767 aircraft and transfer them to 747 aircraft because of less stress on the engines when operating on the quad.

I have not heard of that being done on jets before. I makes sense though. I remember reading Len Morgans article in flying magazine a few years back and he said that the did the same thing at Braniff when he worked there. Except it was R-2800 engines and they swaped them from Convairs to their DC-6's.
