Interesting -- no mention at all of the 777, despite Dixon's comments about the importance of ULR hub-busting. Are there any indications whether the 777/A340 decision will be announced today, or has it been postponed?

Woah! And looks like the 787-9 has been offered, cause that will be some of their options.

Wow. No 773, no 772LR, no 350, no 330, and yet ETOPS not an issue!

Nobody saw this coming, even the biggest Boeing boosters.

And I guess the 65 787s will help pay for the failed 772LR program... as without 773ERs in the fleet, I can't see QF buying the 772LR any time soon. Maybe a future 789LR...

I'm also surprised -- no 772LR? No 773ER? I thought those were in the RFP as well?

65 orders and 50 options.

No 777's or anything else.

Quite a victory for the 787.

Jetstar to get 4 330's until the deliveries of 10 787's.

Kind of disappointed that they didn't go for any 777's....

But not much.

Yes! This is awesome! The 787s will make a great addition to Qantas' fleet. I am surprised about the 777s, though. Did they decide not to order them at all?

The 773ER wasn't part of the RFP. They were pushing for the772LR but perhaps that'll come later. The A350 maybe in serious trouble. They went Boeing all the way.

YAAAAAAAAY! Holy sh**! Wow! That definitely took me for a spin. Truth be told I was kinda hoping Airbus would get some type of A350 order too be it slightly more/less than the 787s. Well, whatever. Thats how it is. Airbus could get a huge order similiar to this with EK and they already have a huge order from Qatar. But wow. Now THIS type of order deserves a CONGRATULATIONS. Not that joke of an order from Finnair a couple days ago. Congrats Boeing!!!

I would have liked to have seen 777s as well but...

Holy shit....what an enourmous win for the 787!!!!

I bet Airbus is pissed right now. Imagine if the 350 had won 65 + 50. Geeze.

I'm SO glad boeing got it though, I yelled when I saw this thread. Big grin

I guess the writing is on the wall for the 777 program. This ought to confirm that the 787 will pretty much kill the 777 despite the obvious differences between both aircraft.

I think orders for other types will 'trickle in' over the next few months. QF had to decide this part quickly to make sure of delivery slots for the 787.

The big surprise is Boeing for Jetstar as well.

It's always possible that more was decided today, just to be announced at a later date. Who knows, sometime next year we could see a joint 777LR/747-8I order?

There was some speculation last week posted on another thread that the 777/340 decision would be made in early 2006. That may be the case, but I think everyone is surprised at the size of this order.

No "Hub Buster"

Dixon has ruled out the A345 and 772LR as no suitable airplane could be sourced

The 777 that got 120+ orders this year? Dead?

I don't think so. QF will be back for 777's soon.

But 115 787's is very, very nice.

Well, if this orders get firmed up before Dec 31st (which more than likely will), it makes it clear without a doubt that this year's top orders go to the USA... good job Boeing!!! Hope to see the B787 flying soon!

The 772LR and 773ER are in different leagues then the 787, so I don't see either program being "killed". Especially as they are still winning orders (especially the 773ER).

The 772ER is in trouble, both from the A359 and Boeing's need to make the 787-9 or 787-10 a competitor to it to keep the A359 at bay.

It's an outstanding order after a fiercely competitive battle.

Both A & B went after the order and the B win shows again that they finally have their act together. I think the QF and CX orders were important for showing that B is Back.

Congrats to QF - no doubt you got a good price/terms and I look forward to flying the 787 with the red roo tail sometime in the future.

Um. a bit early to call it failed. I expect when all is said and done the 772LR will sell as well as the 772A. And let's not forget that having the 772LR helps sell the other members of the 777 family, particularly the 773ER, for airlines who need have multiple needs that one aircraft won't cover.

Holy S%#t. What a resounding endorsement of the B787...not only did they pick it...they bought 1.5 years worth of production (my guess).

I wonder if they will dust off the guillotine in Tolouse.
