How To Get The Best Seat On The Plane!

Wed Dec 14, 2005 9:08 pm

It has just dawned on me that if you travel Ryanair with a child you get to board first, and because it's "Free Seating" yoy get to choose any seat you like as you're first on! Result! (With the exception of emergency exists). Did this last week BOH-DUB with my four year old (first time with Ryanair as normally go Flybe ex SOU) and it was ace!

This also applies to travelling with a disabled or old person!

So always travel with one of the above!

Sorry Flybe, you keep your "£9 per person per sector" to select seats!!

If you took the best seats I wonder who was in the pilots seat: you or your 4 year old?

No offense, but I don't want find a 4-year old everytime I want the best seat ... and the best seat isn't always next to a 4-year old!

Huh?

The "best seats" are on the emergency exit rows...because of the legroom..right? Neither children or disabled people can seat on the emergency exit rows...

The only reason I want a child is to be able to get the best seat on Ryanair. Then I hope he becomes handicapped so I get the best seat and people's sympathy.

Does WN have similar pre-boarding policy to that or Ryan Air?

All the seats on FR are bad, some are just not as bad as others.

I don't know why anybody would want priority to pick a FR seat.

Add sprightly pensioners to the list of people not allowed in the exit row! Just yesterday my sister and I took our 73 year old mother to Venice for the day to celebrate her 73rd birthday. We flew easyJet from LGW.

Being 6'2", I always try and get an exit row for the extra legroom it affords, and I managed to bag the same exit row (row 10) on both flights yesterday. On the LGW-VCE flight the F/A's didn't have any problem at all with the three of us occupying that row, but on the return flight the F/A stationed at the exit rows absolutely refused to let my mother and sister join me in row 10 (and my sister's only 51!!!). Even with my mother protesting that I would do all the lifting of the 80lb exit door should the need arise, she still ordered them to sit elsewhere.

Personally I wasn't that bothered as I ended up with the whole row to myself, but my Mum was not a happy bunny, especially as she's probably fitter than I am anyway!! But don't get me started on how offended my 51 year old sister was!

Matter of opinion, my point being if you go with a child or a cripple you don't have to pay to select a seat as you do with Flybe.............

Or get your company to pay for Economy Plus seats like mine does (it's the only perk I do get when I use Flybe to visit our Channel Islands offices!).

So, there actually is a benefit (probably the only one) to have a kid in one's party...I'm amazed! I usually try to stay as far away from them as possible...  Wink

I don't mind when people pre-board (traveling with kids, disabled, etc.) but I personally think that if you pre-board then you should have to sit in the back of the plane if it's open seating. On WN you always get a gazillion people pre-boarding and they all sit up front, which doesn't bode well at the end of the flight when you have to wait on all the slow pokes to get off. Most of the time the pre-boards often defeat the purpose of the A group also, very annoying. I'm sure this probably happens on other open seating airlines also.
