LH Transatlantic And PTV

Wed Dec 14, 2005 11:08 pm

Am I correct in thinking LH does not have PTV's in economy class on the 747 and 340? I am flying LH next year and just wondering whether they have them...or are planning on installing them.

I think LH only have PTVs on first and business class, and it would be nice if they installed PTVs in Y too but I doubt it.

You might want to try out the handy forum search engine, because there is a discussion about this very topic every few weeks or so.

I think this at this point this topic should be as forbidden as "When will NW replace those DC-9s"  Smile

But to answer your question, there are no PTVs in LH's Y class.

I flew on an LH 346 trans Atlantic last year and there was no PTV....such a relief....one can really relax and sleep instead of staring at a screen for 7 hours odd....that's what you do most of the time at work and at home...staring at screens.....why do people (especially a.nutters) give so much importance to PTV's...????

ENTERTAINMENT!

thats what people want! Its hard for a lot of flyers to simply sit in their seats and do nothing but sleep for 8+ hours..
I and im sure a lot others find it pretty hard to sleep on planes especially in Y class.

Those people who don't like PTV's have obviously never had the luxury of V:Port Big grin  Wink

I would never choose a flight purely on the basis of getting a PTV. Price, pitch and aircraft are more important to me (personally.)

However staying on subject, it is about time that LH raised the standard of their Y product. I have friends who have flown LH long haul and have nothing but bad words about the product. I would not choose to fly LH long haul, however I have flown LH from LHR-FRA-LHR (A300-600) and I was very impressed.

In one of the numerous other threads about this topic there has been the indication that LH is set to update its Y-Class cabin of their current longhaul fleet. The introduction of the A380 is said to be the driving force behind it.

In the old days....ie. 70's etc...there was no PTV and still a lot of people used to travel looooong distances.....this is just an expectation created out of availability of technology....remember that smokers manage to fly without a drag today....because it's just plain banned...

Anyways....my point is that people on this forum just make toooooo much of the PTV issue....most airlines are judged only on the availability or non-availability of PTV's onboard...as though that's the only thing that matters!!!

Airlines should be judged on a wide variety of features...not just PTV's alone...

HT, that's great that LH are set to improve Y onboard the A380 etc, I had read something on here regarding that subject.

Are they planning to introduce new seats with PTV's and increased pitch?

Having flown both AA and VS transatlantic this year, I would have to say on longer flights I would prefer to have the extra pitch (34") over anything else. However my mates all prefer PTV's. Pitch does not bother them, as their feet don't even touch the floor  Wink

Give me 33-34" pitch, a window seat with an amazing view e.g. a GE 90-115b and I'm happy Big grin

As I said, I only repeated what was stated by other A.netters (with an inside-view into LH) in other threads. Therefore I cannot answer your question. Sorry.

Yes... with the A380 will come an entirely new Y product. New seats with increased pitch and recline as well as PTVs. The A380s will be the first aircraft with the new seats and IFE and the remaining long-haul fleet will then be retrofitted with PTVs. Not sure if the 744s will be fitted with PTVs, but I doubt it.

Exactly the same you can do by turning the screen off... although you don't have the choice.
So alternative 1: no PTV no choice; alternative 2: PTV/choice.

Yeah, I wonder why some of us, specially we that use to fly alone, care so much about PTVs...

I came off a AF B772 (ATL-CDG F-GSPC Seat 5K) earlier today that was supposed to be equipped with VOD (as announced), but unfortunately the remote control could not be released from its cradle (only one of a series of minor flaws on that flight - TR in preperation) so there was no efficient way to operate the machine. I didn´t really miss it as I preferred to sleep for most of the flight ...
