Why Doesn't VS Fly To CCS And BOG?

Thu Dec 15, 2005 11:23 am

I just don´t get it. If Richard B the owner of Virgin Atlantic always compete with BA, now that BA stopped flying to CCS and BOG he could easily have that market for himself since no Venezuelan carrier if flying now to the UK.
BA flights were always full and it had 3 frequencies per week. He could give it a try with 2 a week just like BA did when it started to fly to CCS. I don´t know if VS covers any of the others countries in South America but I will love to see a VS 747-400 at Simon Bolivar Int´l airport.

Cheers,

I'm sure BA had a reason for pulling out, let's call it the Catholic Rhythm Method  duck , despite the "full" loads you say they had. Perhaps SRB sees the same thing or just wants to task his planes somewhere he can make money. Full planes do not always equal profit.

When a British tourist thinks of holiday destinations in South America, Venezuela isn't immeadiately the first place they think of. As Virgin make their bread-and-butter money out of Virgin Holidays tourists, Brazil will definately see VS aircraft before Venezuela.

They'd go to PMV before they'd go to CCS, I think.

We non-revved LHR-MIA last summer on VS, great airline  Cool. If they would start flying to Venezuela that's definitely the way to go then for us.

I think same thing, they´d go to PMV rather to CCS.

However, something i don't understand is why BA couldnt´t make the flight work. I flew there a couple of times an as everybody said it was always full even business class and first. I understand that full plane doesn't mean profit but maybe just separating the flight ccs-lhr and bog-lhr because the demand is there... There's a lot of Venezuelan in UK and of course lots of Colombian and they all flight through Lufthansa and air France because every time u went to a travel agency they offered those 2 first. There was a marketing problem with BA in Venezuela as well. But anyway it was nice to have them here for so many years.

and about virgin.. i don't think it never gonna happen.

Hola Pedro es Alejandro BA747. I was a flight attendant with BA for four and a half years. Like I said, Flights were always full, but that doesn´t mean profit. I understand that Virgin will not like to fly here due to the political situation, but again they could have the market just for themselves, since no Venezuelan airline flies to the UK. I hope you are not right about what you said that virgin will never show up here in CCS. Let see hopefully things might get better here.

BA were losing money for a long time on CCS as most of the traffic was low-yield leisure traffic and the aircraft were better off being used on higher yield routes. But yes, the flights did have good loads generally.

BA tried quite a few measures to return the CCS to profit before quitting the route.

It transferred the route from LGW to LHR to try and change its fortunes. It also changed the aircraft type from a 747 to a 777 and finally a 767. But all to no avail.

So will I. But I also think they would fly PMV most likely. However, without any other carrier serving CCS-LON (I don't think V0 or VH are going to service that route in the near future) they could even try LON-PMV-CCS a couple of times a week, if possible (traffic-rights wise).

So, in this particular case, why it wasn´t profitable ?

The flight was full from pax coming from BOG, Low-yield, tourist class pax that payed not enough for BA. The, in the CCS stop, some biz pax came in and more low-yield pax boarded the plane, and this, however, was not enough to make the stop in CCS worth it. You know that with BA´s cost structure, if the 777 didt have at least 150 passengers paying 1500 dollars for the flight, they would not make money. So, they decided to pull low-yield BOG and little pax numbers CCS for once.

An airline with a more efficient cost structure i think could make the route happen (VS or AV or S3)

They should think of it, Venezuela is amazing and very safe!

Besides, unfortunately for many Colombians there is the big issue of obtaining a visa approval to go to the UK and that made it more difficult to travel.
