Thu Dec 15, 2005 12:06 pm

Am I right when I hear that there is a shortage of j1 in lhr due to fire last weekend? based aircraft are to tanker and non based may have to techstop enroute to/from lhr?

Yes all aircraft are arriving with as much fuel as possible.

I think it is currently being tankered in from the Southampton Fawley refinery, though the supply is nowhere near as fast as it was.

A very detailed notam has been issued giving airlines details of how much fuel they can have.

Already longhaul non-based carriers are having to do fuel stops on outbound flights from LHR.

CX stopping at AMS enroute to HKG
QF stopping at STN enroute to SIN/BKK-SYD

BA seem to be doing ok with their higher fuel allowance combined with tankering as much as they can from abroad.

I'm sure we can spare some fuel and apron space here at MAN!

We've just opened a nice new apron with widebody stands which are ready and waiting. However unless the fuel reserves at LHR become further depleted I imagine the vast majority of operators will cope. Where the whole situation will come unstuck is when LHR gets bad weather, as there certainly won't be enough fuel for aircraft to burn it off in holding patterns. So expect lots of diversions if this happens, hopefully to MAN!

That depot fed LTN didn't it? How is that airport coping?

LTN was supplied by this site yes, but I don't know what proportion of their total supply it represented.

They have obviously not had a problem getting alternate supplies as there are no fuel shortages reported there that I know of.

The Heathrow NOTAM about the situation estimates the Fuel Contingency Plan may be in force there until the end of the year.

There was an article in Monday or Tuesday's Daily Mirror reporting 30% reduction in JetA-1 stocks at LHR following the weekend's explosion at Hemel Hempsted and as a result airlines were being asked to fill their tanks elsewhere.

The following restrictions were reported in pprune as being imposed by BP

Quote:
The rationing is effective immediately, with exception for aircraft currently en route to LHR. The duration is undetermined sofar.
We confirm that 30% shortage of supply is applicable.
This implies:
a 15% reduction for Long Haul home based carriers
a 36% reduction for Short Haul home based carriers
a 36% reduction for Long Haul visiting carriers
a 60% reduction for Short Haul visiting carriers
Long Haul is defined as longer than 5 hours.
Air BP is working with the other suppliers at LHR to seek alternative fuel supply to the airport.

So just like UK motorists have been panic buying at the garage pumps, the airlines might soon be panic buying at LHR.

South African is making a stop at Milan (MXP) on one of their twice daily nonstops to Johannesburg. The other nonstop and the nonstop to Cape Town will operate nonstop.

Does anyone have any info on how this is affecting trans-atlantic flights or flights from India? I'm scheduled on Air India next week from LHR to JFK...
