SIA hands down. I love thier chicken Terriaki dinners as well as having PTVS in every seat. I've flown with BA and because of their racial diservice to me I'll never fly them again. When I compalined about the incident to the supervisor at JFK he was no better. I've sent complaints to their offices in London but I got no response. BA doesn't even have PTVS in all of their planes yet. Singapore and Virgin had them years before which is why they both had rave reviews in in flight entertainment by conde Nast as well as the great service and food. I personally like their paint schemes alot better than BA.

OK, I'll be a party pooper here   I would say British Airways mainly for the high level of professionalism, their on-time record is great, flights more often than not arrive ahead of schedule (at least to US destinations that I've tracked, and compare to Lufthansa, each time I've been at SFO i've noticed the flight to FRA delayed by at least 5 hours). And whine all you want about the PTV's, BA is putting them on all their aircraft, along with the new ergonomically designed seats, just basic entire interior renewal. Go to http://www.british-airways.com and click on 21st Century Travel, it'll show you what they are up to   I like BA's schemes, in my opinion I don't like the cheatlines of Singapore, and although Virgin's new scheme is stylish, the purple just ruins the whole thing for me.

And the food... ah yes the food, although the airline does have some say in it, really it all comes down to the catering facility at the departure airport. I've only had one bad experience, and that was with United, so even though they have a chokehold on my local airport, SFO, I hope never to fly them or any Star Alliance member (I hate SAS with a passion as well), as I believe that an alliance is only as good as it's worst member. Just my biased   $0.02.

I have flown both airline and I would say SQ. Although the BA flight I have flown was very good, I still prefer SQ. PTVs on most aircraft ( except their soon-going A310s ) , modern fleet and great on-time performance.

Oh god that's easy, Singapore. When BA is good they're great, but every time I've flown them (which is a lot) they've stuffed the food up (last meal Lasagna was grissle soup) the 30 inch pitch down back on the 747 is horrible and on First first time was was so bad a very senior BA fiqure also aboard apologised telling me he was ashamed by the flight (I was a guest of the airline, but treated like s--t by them),second time upon invitation to try the new sleeper seats the crew were very unpleasant.

Singapore also flown a lot, while not being gods gift to travel as you hear are good. Entertainment great, 32 inch pitch fine (very comfy seats), food edible if nothing special, crews mixed (Singapore Girls very good, Singapore men couldn't give a damn- had a broken seat on a full ovrnight - male steward just left it, second time lucky girl got me moved to the one spare seat right away). Only thing with SQ is the pilots love bumpy landings - aim at the ground and hope by the fifth or sixth contact it stays there, followed by a zig zag down the runway - strange that.

Iceposttm/Matt:

If you are flying British Airways, you will be leaving Chicago - O'Hare at 5:30pm aboard BA298 using 747 equipment. You will arrive in London - Heathrow at 7:20am the next morning. Hope this helps!

Difficult comparison - BA's route network and reasonable service is unbeatable for UK residents. Will keep flying the BA flag for most flights unless Malaysia Airlines is on offer...rather than SQ...sorry.

Interesting comment MAS777. I am a UK resident but can't remember the last time I flew BA, actually it was back in 89 London - Cologne. I find they never seem to have the deal of the moment compared to people like Emirates, Cathay, SIA or KLM.

I also still hold my payout voucher from the Laker days when BA, Pan Am and TWA were taken to court and succesfully sued. Having seen BA do this time and again to Dan Air, Caledonian and Virgin, I would rather give my £ to almost anybody else if possible.

You could say BA's ruthlessness has kept them in business, but it was me the pax they were ripping off.
