AA Changes 1000 Mile OnLine Bonus

Fri Dec 16, 2005 6:59 am

grr, this is somewhat annoying...i mean is 1,000 miles really that many miles to the average traveler? this really affects people like me who do get an average of 45-50k bonus miles a year--ie it affects their most frequent travelers.

AA Changes to On Line Booking Bonus

As of December 15, 2005, AAdvantage members will earn up to 500 miles for each eligible Economy class ticket purchased at AA.com. Members will continue to earn up to 1,000 bonus miles for First or Business class tickets purchased at AA.com. See the Terms & Conditions below or FAQs for further details.

AA Changes to On Line Booking Bonus

American Airlines is really on a roll here:

*M R T C Dropped
*No Pillows
*No Blankets
*$1.00 for Soda
*Nagoya Dropped
*Domestic Service Reductions from San Jose
*Domestic/International Service Reductions from Dallas
*Losing the Battle Over Love Field
*Mileage Bonuses Cut

At what point does American Airlines realize they are driving their clients away?

Seems perfectly sensible to me. Why should people buying cheap economy class tickets get the same bonus as people buying full first class tickets?

*No Pillows

thank god, those things were disgusting anyway...

Quoting Kahala777 (Reply 1):

*Nagoya Dropped

lost the Toyota Contract to UA...

Quoting Kahala777 (Reply 1):
*Domestic Service Reductions from San Jose

Hasn't affected me yet..as I fly lots out of San Jose (SJC I assume)

Quoting Kahala777 (Reply 1):
*$1.00 for Soda

I flew with them last week, still no problems on that end....but that fee will end soon as people will become irritated with it...and its a "limited market" thing for now...

Quoting Kahala777 (Reply 1):
*No Blankets

incorrect, they still have blankets..

Quoting Kahala777 (Reply 1):
*Losing the Battle Over Love Field

not proven yet...but I think they won't do too well...but one never knows..

Quoting Kahala777 (Reply 1):

they are one of the few legacy carriers doing ok...stock has done extremely well the past year...."The Street" (i.e. Wall St.) thinks AA will do well..which I think they will also..

Jeesh first $5 for a crappy meal that WN gives for free, and now they are going to charge for soda too? Even NK gives that free! AA is definatly not making smart decsions. But they still have $$, for now anyway.

because for every 5 business or first class tickets i buy, i buy one economy ticket. so as a loyal client, i am being penalized for the economy ticket?

and again, the 1000 miles doesnt do much for the average traveler who goes on AA even three or four times a year but again is another affront to those of us who go anywhere from 40-50 tickets a year.

admittedly those issues kahala lists doesnt really affect me--so they have done little to drive me away.

Isn't it 500 per economy tkt each way? I spoke to an AA res person on the platinum line today and they said i would receive my 1000 bonus miles x 3 for the 3 trips i booked online earlier?

Since when they charge 1$ for soda? I flew with them a month ago and they never charged me for non alcoholic beverage in coach class. I never heard them charging 1$ for soda. Even if they do, I'll continue to fly with them. Yes, they do charge you for a snack in coach for 3$ or 5$ but not just for a drink.

if you buy any tickets before tomorrow (dec 15) you still get the full 1,000 bonus regardless of class of service.

anything purchased tomorrow-forward is subject to the new rules.

also, i havent flown coach in about 6 months, but i dont recall hearing them charge for sodas!

CO also did this. It was a PROMOTION to get you to buy tickets online and not use so many CSRs. But now that they've gotten most internet savvy people to do that, they lowered it to 500 to keep you from using the CSRs without giving away too many miles.

CO also gives a bonus on elite qualificaiton miles for online ticket purchase, as they only give 50% credit for the cheapest fares, but make it 100% if you book online. This might go away in a few months. It's renewed on an annual basis in february. But I found it funny that I booked online, but later called up to change one segment of my ticket. When my mileage statement came around, the segment I changed counted as bought through the CSR, so that one segment only got 50% elite miles, the other 3 got 100%. Very on top of the situation...

Does AA give bonus for check-in online? CO still does, but who knows if that will continue. It must help them better estimate loads and oversells as well as speed up airport counters, which saves them money every flight, so I'd imagine they'd want to reward you for checking in online as much and often as possible.

not sure. i know they gave bonus miles for a while, but i never use it anyhow since i like the card stock tickets plus i get an itenerary and there is rarely a line in the first class line (regardless of class exec platinum people can check in on first).

well I check-in online but print my boarding passes at the airport using the reprint feature at the kiosks. that way I don't have big sheets of paper, but their thin boarding pass stock instead. but I still get online checkin credit.

from what I know, they are going to have a test run on it for some west coast flights (i.e. SJC/SFO-LAX/SAN) routes....

The reason I heard they lost the Toyota contract was because they would not hold the plane for a top level toyota ex and he ended up missing the flight. If I was AA and Toyota was paying for the flight everday I would take a delay no matter how long it was to make sure he made his flight. This was a big mistake if true by AA.

I would think because the cost of booking a ticket online at AA.com would be the same if it was economy or first?

I have already found that other sites still have tickets cheaper than AA.com..so shop around.

I just looked at AA.Com, and it lists beverages, including soda (or pop, if you prefer) as free.

AA used to give 500 miles each way for checking in on line, but that was dropped some time ago.
