the former governor of South Dakota, just south of Dubuque Iowa.

Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper just east of Mason City Iowa

those are all the famous people killed in Iowa via airplane, I think...

Glen Miller.

And though not plane crashes, the Simpsons had a sick joke tonight on a rerun. Marge is in first class having a pedicure while Homer is getting a massage and just decided to have both "a Steak and two Steaks" and Marge says: "This is so luxurious. I feel like Princess Di and Princess Grace smashed together."

While they were not famous, I believe back in the 70s the University of Evansville's mens basketball team were killed in a plane crash.

Along with 2 singers from the group "Passion Fruit". I remember this accident well, I was on my way home from DUS and I stopped off at McDonalds in the drive-thru when it came on the radio. Quite sad.

That would be a portion of the Oklahoma State Men's Basketball team. Most of Marshall University's (West Virginia) Football team perished in a plane crash in the mid 80's I believe. A famous US Senator was killed on KAL 007. This is a very morbid subject so I am going to stop thinking about it now...

Stevie Ray Vaughn, the blues guitarist. It was 1990 and himself, Eric Clapton, Reba McIntire, BB King, and a slew of other great bluesmen were doing a gig, several of whom had helicopters to get them out after the show. Stevie had a pressing gig or something, and Clapton offered to switch helo's with him. Claptons helo, with SRV on it, crashed.

Randy Rhoades, former Ozzy guitarist, was killed when Ozzies plane's pilot was doing low buzzes of the tour bus and crashed into it or the house near it, can't recall.

There was also that gentleman running for governor in Missouri a few years ago, who ended up winning the election after perishing in a plane crash. The loser of the election - none other than Heir John Ashcroft (shows how likeable he was).

Not that this was mentioned, or that he was even that famous (shoot, I can't remember the guy's name) but wasn't one of the San Diego Chargers football players killed in the ValuJet crash in the Everglades? Also, to add to N1120A's comment, then-defending NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Alan Kulwicki was killed on April Fools' Day that same year (1993) in his private plane on approach to Tri-Cities Airport...

This is a "nearly" one.

Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols missed the Lockerbie flight only because his wife spent so much time packing their bags, they were never going to gwt to the airport on time and so had to rebook.

Another 'nearly one' is former tennisplayer Marc Rosset, who decided to postpone his Swissair flight, back in 1998, after having played at the US Open. The MD-11 flight plumped into the ocean and no one survived.

Actually, Randy was in the bus, and the pilot got qa bit too low, and tore the top off the bus with the landing gear, right at the point where Randy was asleep. The plane crashed and burned as a result, as did the bus. If I recall, wasn't there a member of the House Senate, or a Congressman on KLM-007? I believe the last name was McDonald. Does anyone know for sure?
