AC Increases YYZ-BOG To 6x Weekly

Sat Dec 17, 2005 3:36 am

This comes as a very pleasant surprise. Last time I checked, AC was operating YYZ-BOG under the usual 3x weekly frequencies.

It was announced earlier this year that the airline would operate the 767-300ER on its thrice weekly services to Bogota during the Christmas peak-travelling period, and indeed they have. The 763-service will remain until Feb 26, when the route will go back again to the traditional A319 service, but will stay with 6x weekly flights.

AC962 YYZ-BOG 1400-2015 TuWeThFrSaSu 763*/A319**
AC963 BOG-YYZ 0945-1555 MoWeThFrSaSu 763*/A319**

*Throughout February 26, 2006.
**Effective on February 27, 2006 and until June 14, 2006.

For the mid-year season of 2006, AC has scheduled the 767-200ER for BOG effective June 16.

______________________________

Air Canada lauched Bogota together with Caracas and Lima a couple of years ago under their expansion to Latin America. AC introduced the 3 destinations with 3x weekly frequencies each; BOG and CCS with A319 service, and LIM with 767-300ER.

BOG has performed particularly well; during the summer season of 2005 they registered a solid 85% of load factor, and consistently satisfactory loads even off-season, when occupation in Colombia-North America routes normally drops.

These results now translate in a deeper commitment from AC on the route. BOG has gone from 3x weekly A319 to an impressive 6x weekly 763 operation. AV codeshares with AC on this market.

CCS, on the other hand, lost nonstop flights from YYZ and now shares the service with POS, under a 4x weekly A319 operation.

LIM has the exact same 3x weekly 763 service, though it has been downgraded to 762 during certain periods in the past.

Wow! The traffic form BOG is indeed big to YYZ but the increase is HUGE. Well, good for my home airport!

The only way they can do this increase is codehsring with AV....i see the YYZ route farther from being flown by AV metal, oh well, AC is nice!

Thanks for the update FEDE.
Good news for the spotters in Bogota.
I hope I can see this bird next January!

NO.
AV only can sell 15 % of the seats of the A/C, the rest has been sold by Air Canada

that's how codeshare works.

There's a big Colombian population in Canada, that's the main reason, and if that's the only flight operating to Colombia, there's no other choice so simple.

Actually there's a big (enter nationality here) population in Toronto. Toronto has been named as one of the most multicultural cities in the world. As a spotter in Toronto I wish the increase in traffic meant AV would fly into YYZ. But good news for AC!

Cheers,

Apparently AC073 YYZ-POS-CCS will be operating daily this summer with A319. The reason for the circle flight is that CCS in particular cannot sustain itself (currently) as a stand alone flight. When POS is busy, CCS is light, and vice versa.

My wife has done the YYZ CCS route several times now.

The circle routing is not such a bad thing. First of all, the departure time northbound from CCS is in the morning which is very convenient, and of course the CCS YYZ leg is non stop.

The YYZ CCS leg leaves very late in the evening from YYZ and stops in POS, getting into CCS at about 8AM. So it does make the YYZ CCS leg a little long and they do disembark the CCS bound pax in POS for a few minutes at the rather unwieldy hour of 545AM or so. So not ideal, but on the other hand I think that arriving in CCS at 8AM is better than the old schedule that had the AC non stop YYZ CCS flight getting in at 1030-11PM--that's late to be getting into CCS---cab availability to the cith can be a bit of an issue and it is too late to get a connecting flight anywhere in Vzla so it meant overnighting if you were going on anywhere.

So all things being equal YYZ POS CCS YYZ works out pretty well for a CCS bound or origin traveler. I hope the loads continue to justify the AC flight to CCS--my wife, brother-in-law, mother-in-law, all from Vzla have flown the route several times; the service is very good and the direct service to YYZ is amazingly convenient so as not to have to go through US transit requirements.

Weird... I've tried to book my aunt in that flight in different months and it has been impossible. The lowest fare I could find was USD 200 more expensive than what DL, AA and even MX offered with a stop. In some flights there were only seats available in business class. Also, when there's only a few seats available in coach, fares go up to USD 900.

I guess people like the convenience of the nonstop flight so they pay the premium, but come on, I think this is way too expensive, even Mexicana offers a lower fare via MEX!. That's the reason why I flew CCS-MIA and then PBI-BUF to get to Toronto this summer. I spent USD 360 on the whole trip, which was less than half of was AC was charging.

Codeshare doesnt mean that an airline can sell all the seats of the other.

Theres a specific amount of seats given to the airline thats not operating the flight to sell them.

Well thats good news for both Venezuela and Colombia if all this is true. Well colombian news are confirmed so i hope venezuelan will be as well.

I agree what Luisde8cd said about air canada ticket prices from CCS. Its nice to have direct flights but id rather make a stop in USA and save 200 or 300 uss than go directly, and thanks to our president there´s more and more Venezuelan people living in Canada every year so the demand is there.

Who knows maybe someday we will have a daily 767 service like our neighbours will next year. We just have to wait and see.

Thanks to your president, it might not be such a good idea to make a transit stop at a US airport with a Venezuelan passport. I understand people wanting to save money, and connecting services are often offered at a discount to nonstops for obvious reasons. That's the name of the game, and some people will prefer to pay the premium. Also, if they are flying to or from a city in Canada other than AC, a US carrier or MX might not be able to offer a comparably discounted through rate. From Winnipeg or Halifax, for example, which don't have DL, AA or MX service, I'd guess that an AC through fare is quite competitive with anything else in the marketplace.

Ask that to TACAA320 and Arcano and 2travel2know...he has been on our asses more than once only b/c he doesnt read well..

Anyway i dont want to turn this thread into a battle field. It good to see that BOG can sustain that kind of service to a market that had never gotten flights before.

maybe as next step, we can see YUL-BOG flights operated by AC? maybe a 3 weekly a319 service? As I heard the colombian population in montreal is growing up and growing up, also yvr could be an option for the future...

I believe that it is more likely to see a definite consolidation of the YYZ-BOG route with daily year-round service.

Those passengers who wish to go to YUL can do so easily. The codeshare agreement between Air Canada and Avianca, which began on Febrary 1 of the present year, covers only three specific routes, in which YUL is included:

YYZ-BOG-YYZ operated by AC, with originally 3 weekly flights, now with 6. AV codeshares.

YYZ-YUL-YYZ operated by AC, with more than 20 daily flights it's the airline's most active domestic market. AV codeshares on AC422.

BOG-MDE-BOG, operated by AV with up to 15 daily flights it's the airline's biggest domestic market. AC codeshares on AV9330.

Will never happen! AV is fine where they are with AC metal on this route, lets not forget...my wonderful home airport (YYZ) is the most, i repeat, most expensive airport in the world to land an aircraft in...they took that spot from NRT last year, one of the main reasons so many national carriers have pulled out of YYZ in the past (IB, TP, AR) etc...its a shame...with a national election coming, guess what im asking all politicians...what are you gonna do about the tax on YYZ!!!
