NZ Availability RAR-LAX

Sat Dec 17, 2005 8:56 am

Very grateful if anyone can advise what availability is like (I think T class might be the cheapest) on RAR-LAX sector (operates 3 times per week). Dates very flexible from mid Feb to mid Mar 2006. Many thanks!

A one-way sector just by itself is actually quite expensive. Lowest one-way point-to-point fare is V class at USD1389 before taxes. Depending on your overall travel plans, you can probably reduce this if it were part of a through fare.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

Great location BTW

Very poor availability on this route on lower fare classes... for example:

You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

You may want to try looking at availability RAR-PPT and then PPT-LAX - all RAR-LAX services stop in PPT anyway, and sometimes you may be able to find class availability that isn't there on the through flight number.

I second BestWestern's sentiments on Raro - it's a fantastic place. I rank it above Tahiti, Fiji, and Honolulu by far.

Why did they stop the direct flights from RAR-LAX and other routes in the pacific like NAN-HNL and Tonga-HNL?

Because they weren't profitable. Is there ever any other reason?

Quoting Planemanofnz (Reply 4):

Because they were a waste of perfectly good aircraft that could be used elsewhere more effectively.

Thanks for all the replies! Actual itinerary is LAX-BNE//SYD-LAX with stop in APW southbound (operates Tue only) and RAR northbound, AKL just being a transit. I've been to HNL/NAN/PPT and was wanting to try something new. Cheapest quote thus far has been $1600 via one of NZ's USA wholesalers and dates returning end March.
