Market Planning is a department that researches exisitng & ongoing renvenue boarding stats for passengers and freight carriage by carriers currently operating. It also involves revenue optimization stats for current traffic & potential traffic in markets. Ultimately deciding where & when a carrier enters a market with city pairs.

Since I won't be in the customer service department I probably won't have any say as to who is chosen for those select postions. what I can tell you is to apply on line now with Virgin America. Update your resume' or application often, and remember if you get a call or contact letter, be Creative, Don't be Modest, be knowledgeable about the Virgin Companies, be knowledgeable about who Virgin America actually is (no its not even 35% Richard Branson), and take with a grain of salt what some naysayers would have to condemn this company-(you will be asked during an interview about this).

What about PVD? Would be nice to see them here too! Well, I'm sure VA will eventually pic on of the three big cities in NE.

Believe me it is a "REAL" company.

Jacob, yes I will be working out of the Headquarters in Burlingame about 12 days per month, and the remainder I will be traveling or working from my home office in Sun Valley.

Congrats - very glad to hear the good news. How will you be commuting back and forth? Just build it in to the course of your travels?

Wishing you the best - I may come join some rank (probably the bottom rung while I'm still at school) of Virgin America if it works out for me.

Sounds like a choice job. Congratulations!

If they need anyone with Japanese, Chinese, and French skills, and ability to think outside the box, let me know.

Does this mean you can become the inside guy for all of us or will their be limitations to our exploiting...I mean using your resourcefulness?
Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Thanks for the congrats.

I will share what I may with anyone, but as you well know there are limitations & I do have Non-Disclousre Provisions that I must adhere to.

I recently finished all the IATA courses for Market Analysis, & Strategy, and this along with my college degrees was attractive to Virgin America.

What relationship will Virgin America have with the other "Virgin" airlines (Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Nigeria and Virgin Blue)? Are they all owned or ran by Richard Branson? What routes are Virgin American looking at flying?

"Hype"? That is what many said about Jet Blue, MaxJet, Independence Air, and Frontier before they started as well....  sarcastic ..This airline is going to be something, if I was the boys at United Airlines, I would seriously be scratching my head about now..

KAHALA777

My expression "HYPE" was in relation to the fact that they came in with "some" fan fare and then for the longest time nothing and really now with the exception of a few press releases and an updated web page, still nothing. Talk is cheap.

Kahala, you are earning a very dubious reputation for always being wrong. MAXjet has been operating for less than two months, nowhere near enough time to see if their business plan will be successful, Independence Air is on life support, and Frontier's creation was more-or-less a non-event to everyone who didn't live in Denver because their original business was to not be noticed! The only airline I'll give you is jetBlue, and they are still cherry-picking markets and enjoying the benefits of brand new aircraft. Give reality some time to sink in. While you're waiting, school yourself on the biz.

Congrats on your new job! When I was younger I was very intersted in that aspect of the business. What course of studies should one take for that position?

Business Adminsitration with major emphasis and specialization in Traffic & Transportation. Additionally IATA has about a dozen classes that specialize in Traffic Market Research. I also have a degree in International Studies.

Wrong, When?  box

Was I not involved in topics that proved American Airlines has reduced in-flight amenities? Was I not involved in topic that proved American Airlines First Class service is not on a par with other airlines? Was I not involved in topics over the years that have proved the major U.S. airlines cannot continue to operate the way they did pre 9-11? Next time before you post something that is factually wrong, think about it!

What does your mummbled comment have to do with the word "hype". As you may very well not know, airlines are "hyped" before operation to drum up business. But then again, I had to teach you that!  box

Yawning over here.. Reality has set in and the likes of Jet Blue, Independence Air, Frontier, ATA, and Southwest Airlines have caused all of the major airlines one massive financial headache.. Reality set in for you as well?  box
