KLM Cityhopper - Fleet Shortage?

Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:21 pm

Are KLC short of Aircraft?

They operate the Fokker 50/70/100.

They are currently leasing 23 F50's...changes everyday...from Denim Air.

They dropped the RTM-LCY-RTM....which was doing well.

Are they: short of F50's, short of Aircraft or just doing alot of maintainance?

So what's the problem?

Aah right! Well, in the event that there ever was a need to sub any particular service, then VLM & Denim air (now one and the same) were the preferred ACMI supplier for obvious reasons. Specifics I'm not aware of in this instance, but from my experience in the past, it could indeed be the case. There have for a number of years now been "issues" with KLC's maintenance suppliers, about who services what and when, manpower availability with the relative mantenance company and the general "state" of the a/c and the amount of routine works being required to be carried out just to keep the a/c dispatchable. IMHO, these all stem from an initial underinvestment in KLM uk Engineering, in terms of spares and manpower availability over the years which has led to the current situation. MP have unfortunately been left to pick up the pieces.

the main reason is is that currently, the F-50's will go to heavy maintenance (last week i saw 4 F-50's at schiphol east) and that KL will retire some...

2 of those retired are going to the exel group (wich is already bankrupt) wich they promised... (dont know why they promised them)

so its just an interm solution , while KL has a shortage..

but KLC will indeed expand with 3 F-100's (ex pelita) and probably all AF F-70's

Currently 2, but as of the first week of january it goes back to 1.
It'll be operating the EIN-LHR route.

Where did you get the information from that it was doing well? They stated themselves that they dropped the route as it did not work well. No surprise, actually: they tried to compete with a 2-daily flight against VLM who operated 8 daiily flights and already well established on the RTM-LCY route. And on top of that, they were more expensive than VLM.

Hmm, then I suppose I'd be a yield problem. I only have a Dutch source on Luchtvaartnieuws.nl, where a management representative is quoted: "Als je ziet dat het niet winstgevend is, dan stop je ermee". In English: "When you see it is not profitable, you quit."
