AirTran 717 Skids Off Taxiway In ROC

The headline for the article said the plane skidded of the runway. The reality is a bit less dramatic.

he didn't skid off runway, he was on a taxiway when I went off. Not a big deal.

Wow, an AirTran article that didn't mention Valujet!

Quoting LHMARK (Thread starter):

This bit had me wondering:

Quoting linked article,reply0:
Despite the icy conditions, Airport Director Terry Slaybaugh says it was still safe for the pilot to land. The airport does not use salt on its runways, crews use sand instead. Slaybaugh says sometimes that is still not enough to prevent the runways from icing over

I guess this is because of the damage salt will do to the metals on an a/c, or is it a FOD issue, or a little bit of both? Or did LHMARK bogart all of the salt in the Greater Crapchester Area (which consists of about 5 square city blocks) to use in his margaritas? Or did the city not get any due to the Spirit of Ontario suspending service early?

If the newsmedia reported how many incidents actually do happen, whatever the subject, everyone will get paranoid.

So...was there any damage to the airplane? Does the pilot get dinged for this on his record?

Was Joe Patroni able to get it off the runway in time for the damaged 707 to land with Dean Martin at the Helm? (Pun intended)

Does this have anything to do with the fact that ROC is currently experiencing long taxi delays? My sister's B6 flights pushed back at 6:15 and still hasn't departed and it's now 6:50. Whenever I fly B6 out of ROC I'm in the air within five minutes of push-back.
