WN And DEN Route Map

Thu Dec 22, 2005 2:23 am

Saw something interesting on WN's route map today.

If you select "show only nonstop flights," and then click on Denver, OAK and SAN show up as having nonstop service.

WN has not yet announced nonstop service to either OAK or SAN from DEN, although they're both likely candidates for nonstop WN service, especially OAK.

Probably just a glitch, but it's sure an interesting one.

Wow! Doesn't the SAN-DEN route already have a combined 11 flights a day with F9 and UA? I guess WN is trying to get to that magic 100 number at SAN. But we need non-stops to RNO, Southwest...not somehwere we already have non-stops to.
Uncle SAN at your service!

Glitch?

Maybe not. The response to SWA coming to town here in Denver has been overwhelming. I wouldn't doubt SWA is already lining these other cities up.

RSW-HOU also comes up on the nonstop only map. I'd suspect an announcement on new service soon too...

Playing around with schedules it looks like DEN-SAN and DEN-OAK are going to be Saturday only Nonstop flights.

Feb 5 2006 schedule. Flights seem to disappear after only a month or 2.

I Agree, Somewhat.

Since I work in Ski travel, people are excited that WN is finally heading back to Denver. Though, I haven't heard much from locals about SWA coming. I seen some commercials on TV, I think they were a sponsor of the Denver parade of lights. They sponsored the sports ticker on KWGN 2 news.
It comes down to price.
And frankly, I've had a play around on the reservations part of their site, and a lot of the promo fares and such are sold out(dates I have looked for), and they are the same price as UA or F9. And at that point, I'd rather fly them and get an assigned seat.

So mark me down as a front ranger who does not care if Soutwest comes to Denver or not. The fares I've seen have not impressed me. If the fly to St Louis non-stop, cheap, then I'll have a second look.

On Southwest.com looks like the flights begin in 2/11, end 3/25.
That's ski season and Saturday's typically a heavy ski travel day.
They could be experimenting. Who knows...

The flights/schedules don't show in Sabre, just on southwest.com.

IF they're actually doing this, it's surprising WN didn't announce it before information became available on their website.

Guess we'll see...

The flights you are seeing are indeed Saturday-only flights as of the February 5 schedule. Looking at the map on Southwest.com, you can see: SAN-RNO, DTW-LAS, DEN-OAK/SAN, and HOU-RSW.

Well...of course Southwest says there is too much capacity in the industry right now, but that doesn't apply to them.  Smile

What I find interesting is that when displaying all service, not just nonstop from Denver, not one destination in Texas is available....wonder how long that will last?

Could be a while, other than HOU, I don't see any other texas destinations soon, other than maybe and I really mean maybe SAT or AUS.

Well, considering they create so much demand for them as well as competiting airlines, at least they creating demand and can make a profit.

Sweet, those all are interesting city pairs that I hope work out so that they can offer 1 or 2 flights a day.

Southwest little overwhealming responce will be short lived when people actually realize they are not always the cheapest like they make people think.

DEN-OAK is a perfect target. F9 used to compete with UA but pulled out, so it's a United monopoly route right now... and at their Northern California "hub" they have plenty of pax available.
USAir A321 service now departing for SFO with fuel stops in CAK, COS and RNO. Enjoy your flight.

I thought everyone in Denver was going to keep flying United and Frontier because their products are so superior and less expensive than Southwest most of the time. You mean that's not true??? Or that there might be enough business for everyone when the fares come down?

Quoting Ouboy79 (Reply 12):

I think what they'd probably argue is that there is a surplus of high-cost capacity in the industry.

If you think that being the cheapest is the reason for Southwest's success, you simply do not understand their business.

A most rediculous statement. So exactly what airline is it that is ALWAYS the cheapest?

According to the article, they currently will run only a month then MAY continue based on aircraft scheduling.

It's unclear how long the flights on those routes will continue, Berg said, which is why the company hasn't announced them. Currently, the flights can be booked on Southwest's website through March 11.

The end date is not firm. Berg said schedulers may continue the routes "if it's working fine and we don't have any other place we need (the planes)."
