Doubt About DL

Thu Dec 22, 2005 4:43 am

Hi all,

I have a doubt, little or stupid question but... In January my father must to fly from NYC to NAS and one of the last flights it's at 10:15 AM with an CR7 of DL (operated by OH).

What a little aircraft for a 3:30 hours route and...all configured in tourist class???

Why not (January 29, 2006) later flights? Why DL send this aircraft for a (I think) lucrative route?

The previous flight is of an airline that I never heard: NK (Spirit Airlines). Any info about it? This airline and flight has Business Class!!

Thanks for the info and merry Xmas!!!!

Delta, or any airline will put an aircraft on a route that will (throretically) turn them the most profit. There's prolly only about 40 pax at the particular time NYC-NAS, so they have enuff to fill an RJ. No use sending a 738 at that time that wouldn't even be half full.

Supply and demand.

From looking at loads over the course of a month, this flight usually goes out with a 70-85% LF. That is a load factor that can usually return a profit for that flight route, but also would not warrant anything of a larger aircraft. Put a 737-800 or MD-88 on the route, it is a sudden money loser that never carries more than 100 passengers. When you have the choice of operating a profitable route with smaller equipment or an unprofitable route with larger equipment, which do you choose? DL is choosing to use the smaller aircraft, easier to fill and make money off of than struggling to fill a larger mainline craft.

NK uses an A319 on the route that is configured to 8/130. NK is based in FLL and has been around for approximately 15 years (longer if you include their "Charter One " days). Either DL or NK would be good choices on the NYC-NAS route (assuming your talking about LGA)

Spirit is a good airline. I'd probably choose a 319 over an RJ if the fares are similar and I had to actually pay.

Well, that makes one of you. Have you seen the insides of most of their planes? The newer Airbuses look better, but the insides of the Nines and MD80's look like they've been around the world a few times and never seen the operating end of a steam cleaner! But most of the employee's I've met have been pretty nice folks.

Good idea. But I'm sorry, I see just a few minor problems with your comment. Its completely wrong, innacurate and provides nothing to the thread. NK does not fly JFK-NAS, so you can't try one of their 319's on the route, and of the South Florida end, they only fly MD88's so once again, you will not be trying it there either. In the end, because the routes are nothing alike, the fares will not be similar, so if you want to fly from JFK-NAS, you will be on an RJ, that is, if you don't want to pay.

By the way, encouraging someone to take a OAL over that RJ just took come cash out of your pocket MD88. And you wonder why your about to take a bigger paycut.  sarcastic

However MD88, it is much easier to sit back and watch you start struggling to pay for that $10 whore.... You know, I bet you are one of those four bars that thought it was okay that you (being a MD88 bus driver) were paid more hourly than AA 777 captains... Weren't you? Man... I hope you were one of those pilots that I break checked on push back....

And I'm not getting cheaper any time soon, so ante up. I would imagine someone of your caliber would be able to come up with something better.  rotfl

As said above..since you mention the CR7 I assume you meant JFK for the flight.

B6 has 2x - A320.
DL - CR7 (which isn't really that bad)

LGA would be your best bet if your adamant on flying DL or another Legacy.

DL 1x - MD88
US 1x - A319
NK 1x - A319
