Well, Christmas Surprise by GA... they announced the order in July, but said delivery was to commence Feb2006... before I knew it I got a call from a friend in GA saying that it was in KUL/SZB and gave me the first scheduled date...

So, now, when's Lion's 739ER coming ?  Smile

Speaking about Indonesia , have you some news about Adam Air ?.
They are in the final study to chose between A32X and 737NG for about 20 planes.
For your information , the very first Batavia Air A319 has the tail painted at Hamburg.

FCKC,
I saw a photo of the Batavia without engines and fully painted... No cheatlines anymore for Batavia...

Adam? Looks like they'll go A32x but there are concerns about whether it can operate into some airports Adam flies to... Where even their 732/5 has a weight limit.

Is it brand new from Boeing or did another airline previously operate it? A givaway would be whether she has eyebrow windows above the cockpit or not.

can't find anything else on this one. For sure not a new aircraft as it hasn't been seen around Boeing, which production output is closely monitored with spotters. Anyone an idea about its identity?
Garuda leases in some stuff for hadj and so sometimes, but let's say if this would have been a former Pegasus machine, why the registration PK-GEE?
Doesn't the tail look a bit small for an -800? Might it be a doctored -400 picture? It all looks a bit fishy for me. Just like to know a bit more on it.

It is definitely an -800, if you look at the back of the engine there is the little peg sticking out, on the classic (-300/-400) models there is a.

Here's a -400

Yeah, that is what I imagined. I thought GA was planning on getting brand new B738s.

Still looks smart nevertheless, especially with those winglets.

I thought the 737NG (particular the 73G) had better takeoff/field performance?

P.S. why does Batavia Air A319 have the A319 logo extra large?  eyepopping

ID still not known. It's definitely not a new build, I can confirm that.

I shall ask around my contacts.

This seems strange, as with their own arriving in the new year i would imagine this would only be a temporary measure, perhaps to assist with the introduction of their own shortly.

Surplus 738's or carriers that often lease them out, that come to mind are ATA, Pegasus, Air Europa, Futura.......

Pic of the cockpit would confirm its not a new build as presumeably it will have eye brow windows??

MEA-707,
It is PK-GEE and it's not in GA for the Hajj, hence the "permanent" registration into PK-. However, it is PK- reg'd ALSO because it is needed to serve some domestic flights (which MUST be carried out by PK- reg'd aircraft) and is operated by Garuda pilots, so it's not wet leased (which further eliminates the Hajj as a cause).

This aircraft is not new. It is from Europe, which airline exactly I can't get that detail yet... The GA 738 deal is packaged with GECAS and this jet could be part of the package which is to be predominantly new built aircraft... But GA needs the aircraft immediately. This could end up as the only non-new 738 in GA's upcoming fleet... or maybe up to 4 more. Even the pilots are not kept "in the loop."

MauriceB,
No they won't free up the widebodies much. This particular aircraft is brought in now to relieve the A330 off the CAN route. This aircraft was also in SUB the other day... well GA doesn't serve CAN daily yet.

AMS is still quite far away in terms of time. Wait until there's news of the widebody fleet additions that is currently being decided... Apart from the 787s on order, GA is looking to either get the A333 (either 2nd hand and/or exercise their options for 3 more)/343 (2nd hand).

So until the 787s get delivered or the widebody supplement package is set, AMS unfortunately won't see GA metal regularly.

Sorry, there's just too many unknowns at the moment. However, it's not here for the Hajj...

Garuda's first B738, PK-GEE, is here to stay. As stated before, the airplane is currently operating 5 weekly CGK-CAN flights, as well as CGK-SUB shuttles in between. In order to compensate for the reduced capacity, the frequency of the route has been upped by one, and will further increase to daily from January onwards.

The deployment of the B738 is relieving the A333 fleet, which was up to now used for 4 weekly CGK-CAN flights. Garuda has also closed the DPS-FUK route after just a couple of months of operation because of the abysmal performance of this and other DPS leisure routes after the October Bali Bombs, installment II. As such, the freed up A333 is currently used for Haji operations.

As more B738s join the fleet and the Haji comes to a close, Garuda will expand its international operations, with planned new routes and increases as follows:

- Jakarta-Bangkok will see the return of a second flight on certain days after Lufthansa withdraws from the route at the end of March. The presence of a daily LH B744 had earlier forced both GA and TG to reduce frequencies ;

- Jakarta-Taipei and/or Denpasar-Taipei will be reinstated ;

- Jakarta-Incheon and/or Denpasar-Incheon will be reinstated ;

- additional frequencies to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur will be programmed from various gateways ;

- a return to Manila and one or more destinations in India will finally happed in 2006 ;

- a Surabaya-Hongkong route is again being contemplated ;

- last but not least: a return to Amsterdam is tentatively planned for June 2006, although neither the route nor the frequency or equipment have been given the go ahead ;

Thanks for clarifiying many questions not yet asked HB-IWC... I wonder how Batavia's gonna do against GA's daily CGK-CAN when their A319s come in Feb...

Looks like the FUK routes is continuously screwed by bombs...

Btw, will TPE be 738 served?

Garuda has the advantage of the CZ cooperation and possibly domestic codeshares within China ex CAN in the near future. I'd say Garuda and Batavia are serving different markets and will continue to do so, although Batavia will likely have to raise fares to pay for the more expensive leases of the A319s.

It looks like it. Nonstop this time, no more via Manado. I predict the route is doomed to fail. You heard it here first.

Most recent news said of problems GA had with payments on lease. Well, so much for that.
I wonder where the 738 came from? ATA?
Second hand A333s are non-existent at the moment.

FYI, Inter Airlines will receive 2 A321's during this winter. So also their other 738 (TC-IEB) will leave the fleet. Will this one also go to GA? I hope this clears some up for you guys  Smile

Merry X-mas to you
