If they want to launch these routes that soon, surely they should be advertising them for sale by now - have the schedules been loaded into the CRS?

We haven't heard anything about TK in Ireland yet? Will it be 738 or 320?

Dneprepetrovsk looks to get many flights recently. Air Baltic started the route last year, OS announced it, now also TK.

Is there an open skies agreement between Ukraine and the EU?

THY was supposed to receive 6 738s and A320s before the year end. So assuming an average schedule of 3-4 times a week, it can accomodate 12-15 destinations.

By the way, as far as I know, the first long haul flight for A330 is scheduled in late February.

They really are concentrating on the middle east a bit. I am surprised its taken them this long to operate flights to Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat etc

While there is a lot of expansion ex IST- Ankara ,Antalya and Izmir seem to lack new destinations.Have THY abandoned regional airports in their developement strategy?
I know about a new project of THY to set up a low-cost airline- but that should not collide with normal flights being added specially ex Ankara and Izmir.

Quoting Dkny (Reply 17):
I don't understand what kind of market they are looking for in ADD.

Primarily Europe - ADD transit traffic. TK's Istanbul hub can very affectively harness European and regional connections.
In addition Turkey, particularly Istanbul has started seeing pockets of African migrants. As a result Kenya Airways already serves Istanbul twice weekly.

Both Izmir and Ankara have brand new modern terminal under construction. Expect for THY to launch additional IST by-pass services particularly to Europe with the completion of the two facilities.

The planned THY LCC division would indeed be ideal to connect many secondary cities that have low premium traffic demand and are instead primarily driven either by lower yielding tourist or VFR demand.

True, this one would definitely be in competition with EgyptAir and Yemenia who already have flights that connect to Europe out of Addis, and TK would also have further advantage with its destinations in North America. Also, Turkish companies have recently looked at investing in Ethiopia, and while still small, it is something that can be built upon. Again however, it would be on a very small scale.

Any news on additional frequencies on existing routes? BSL-IST was said to go 5x weekly already last summer and there were rumours that maybe Ankara or Izmir might see a weekly flight from Basel too...

Thx for your help

Wow! I might be going down to the airport to see it then. Choc teshekular, arcadash!

Is TK going to be operating the A330 into DXB on regular basis or is this just because the loads happened to be high at this time? Thanks.

This is excellent. Turkish aviation is really booming these days.

With a higher density on flights to central Europe and the offer of some unique destinations, TK is becoming more and more an option for travellers in central Europe.

The Canadian and Turkish Governments are trying to negotiate a new air services agreement. TK wants the right to fly daily to YYZ, while AC is not very interested (they prefer that you fly with them to FRA and then transfer to LH before continuing to IST).

New negotiations are planned to take place in Jan 2006. If I hear anything in the meantime, I'll let you know.
