Has The AN124 Ever Been In Chicago?

Fri Dec 23, 2005 4:47 am

I just did a search of the photo database and did not see any pics of the AN124 in Chicago. Anybody know if it has been in Chicago and for what reason?

I have seen the AN124 at ORD. Just once. I don't remember the exact date offhand, but it was around '97 or '98. What an awesome sight! I was heading over to do some spotting by the south cargo area, and there she was, in Anotonov Design Bureau colors. I have no idea why it was there. I do have some pics - buried somewhere. I'll try to do some digging around after the holidays to see if I can find a date.

Why do you want to know, anyway? Curiosity?

Just curiosity. What I would give to see it at ORD...or even anywhere for what it is worth! Every time I am on the train from remote parking to the terminals, I always give a hopeful glance over at the cargo apron as we pass it.  Smile I have a better chance of seeing it at ORD than down at my folks house in EVV.

I can assure you that next time the AN124 is at ORD, I will make sure to post it here. Actually, keep your eyes out - the AN225 has been up at MKE twice in recent memory. MKE is a much shorter trip from ORD than to EVV! But yes, I agree, it would be nice to see the AN124 at ORD once again.

After the first Gulf war , Air Foyle from the UK had won a contract to move
Cat D-9 dozers from Chicago to Kuwait . These stopped at both Gander and
Shannon and were operated approx every second or third day for approx
3 months .
