Airport TAX In Sweden

Fri Dec 23, 2005 10:38 pm

I found this article in a swedish newspaper:
Airport tax in Sweden

As I understand it they will implement a 96 SEK tax on domestic and European flight, and 430 SEK tax on long haul flights from Juli 1. 2006

This seems to be very bad for LCC in Sweden. And on the other hand help SK.

Does anyone have aa angle on this?

Yes, well we have outrageous taxes on everything else here in Sweden, so I guess that was the only thing they could come up with. And why am I not surprised that this great idea comes from the leftish green party (environmentalists)? They actually believe that there will be a lot less pollution if they stop LCC's from operating in Sweden.  Yeah sure Sheesh!

The article above is actually criticising this tax, and the author ends with:
"This country's transport politics has been cut down by people that most of all wants the Swedish people to travel by foot or sleighs"  bigthumbsup

This will take a "big bite" out of travel in Sweden. It will pay off to drive or travel by other means to OSL or CPH and fly from there, especially long-haul.

Don't see how this can help SAS at all. Feel free to explain.

The interesting ting is that Sweden, is a rather large country or should I say long. Sweden stretch some 2000-2500 km. The only other possibilities are train or car. And with the fuel price in Sweden, at 11 SEK it is rather expensive to drive. And trains they are slow and not always on time...  Smile

Funny that they want to implement that kind of tax.

Completely agree. This tax actually harms the environment.

It has been the great invention of Chaques Chirac ( in France we call it already the "Taxe Chirac" ) who thought that black-mailing airline passengers into another tax (in addition to already outrageous existing taxes ) would bring relieve to Aids- research for third world countries.
This money will go right into the pockets of pharmaceutical companies who have already tons of "research subsidies" from the EU!
It is an absolute scandal this tax is being authorirzed, when a drop in VAT for restaurants in France has been refused for many years by Germany ...
People in the third world will not benefit at all from this tax but barely be used as an excuse .I live in France but totally disagree with this stupid invention !

Well as I see it 96 SEK on top of LCC price makes it relatively higher than it would on SK price. Working for SK. I thing SK estimates an average price increase at 15-20%.

Though it will make it harder for SK to make money. And it will prolong the recovery fase SK is through.

On long haul it will not necessarily be an advantage. It will only drive passengers to CPH, OSL or HEL for long haul flights.

Yes absolutely... In Denmark we had the same tax for many years. Now pr. 2007 the tax will withdrawn it. Because it wasn't benefiting the environment.

Merry christmas

Unfortunately it is not French invention, as Denmark has had an outrages PAX tax. Though our tax had no sad excuse as being aid to third world contries. Only a very bad excuse to fill the pockets of the Treasure....

Though I must say that the Frech tax is BS! Newer have I ever heard of such stupid excuse!

In someways I admire this kind of vision. It is altruistic and self sacrificing. Just do not see the connection between this tax and air travel. It almost seems to me that those who can afford air travel are stigmatized as being too well off.....so now we will charge you an additional tax as a result (shame on you for flying!!).

No thoughts were given to any ailing airline out there whose livelihood depends on the daily air traveler.
