Question On NZ's 744 New C Class And Lounges

Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:39 pm

Hi to everyone and happy holidays.

I am flying NZ5 LAX/AKL on December 28 and was wondering if anyone please could tell me if that plane will have the new C class or the old one? I called NZ in US twice and ones the guy told me that it will be the old one and second time the girl told me that it will be the new one.

If it's the old configuration, what to expect in terms of seats (pitch, recline and etc.), entertainment program, food and etc.?

Flying domestic NZ flights, are you aloud to use NZ lounges being Star Gold or lounges are only for international flights?

Any help will be appreciated

I have flown the old Air New Zealand C Class and it is pretty good. If you have flown United Airlines C Class, it is pretty much the same. The seat pitch is 50inch and has a full recline angle of 150 degress. Comfy enough to sleep. As part of the Business Cabin is upstairs try to get the Emergency Exit row and you will be rewarded with a huge amount of legroom. Do avoid the main Business Cabin, it is a little cramped. The IFE is reasonable however I imagine you will be on a night flight so IFE is not that important.

The service/ food and wine standard are very high on Air New Zealand. Much better than Qantas I think.

Hope you enjoy your flight. If you get the new product you are in for a real treat my friend!

Regarding the lounges, you will be able to use the new AZ lounge at LAX which I hear is outstanding. I use the old one some years ago and found it very spacious, with good facilites.

Merry Christmas!

I will have a lok toniht. We have the new cabin last night on 5. It seems to be every two days we have the new cabin on 5. Was reading lastnight that NZ1/2 are dedicated to new product along with SFO. 5/6 will have it off and on through the week pending a/c availability.

NZ5/6 as said above gets the upgraded aircraft usually every 2 days. While NZ1/2 now gets it daily.

NZ has domestic Koru Club lounges at AKL, HLZ, New Plymouth, Napier, Palmerston North, WLG, NSN, CHC, ZQN, Dunedin and IVC. I see WLG has more facilites in its Koru Club lounge then any other Domestic lounge! All Star Gold members are allowed to use both International and Domestic lounges

I am flying SFO-AKL tomorrow (Dec. 25) and it looks to be a 777 which will have the new cabins, but I am returning on Dec 31st and it looks like the flight will be operated by a 744. Will this be an upgraded plane? I really hope so because I am flying via SFO in hopes of getting the upgraded product since 50 inch pitch in business class is worth no where near the extra cost of business class.

SFO was guaranteed as new cabin when the first upgraded B744 came online, still could be the same

Yes, it has to be a new aircraft, because the cabins being sold have to match the 772 for spec.

Thanks guys. That makes me feel a little better. I am flying with some picky relatives that are a little pampered  Smile. I definitely will write a trip report, but my camera is currently broken Sad. I might be able to use my Cell phone to take some pics, but I can't promise anything good.

You will definitely have an upgraded aircraft.

As far as I can tell, at the moment you WILL get an upgraded 744. However, anything could happen between now and your flight, so don't build up too much hope until you get on board. At the worst, you have a 50/50 chance.

Cellphone use on NZ aircraft is banned, but NZ is currently applying to the NZ CAA for an exception to this rule, but only for cellphones that have 'inflight mode' option
