Canadian Airlines Charity Flights For The Make A W

Sun Dec 25, 2005 1:26 am

Back in the 1990's Canadian Airlines used to have an annual Charity flight from YYZ to Niagara Falls on A B767-300 for a sight seeing tour. The flight cost $45Cdn for a 45 minute flight. All the proceeds went to the Make a Wish Foundation. It was a great opportunity to make a donation and experience a great flight. It was fantastic for kids who had never flown before.

There was very little security at the time and the cockpit was always open for visitors. After Canadian was taken over by AC, the flights stopped.

With the increased security threats that are prevalent today, would it still be possible for an airline to offer this kind of a charity event. With the Cockpit locked and no baggage allowed on board!

Any Thoughts??

I believe you are wrong.

I remember every year, including this one, where AC has done the same thing. They also fly hundreds of kids down usually on two flights down to Disney in Florida.

As for your question, when you've got a load of sick/dying/underprivaledged children on board, with their parents, I highly doubt they'd be AS concerned with security (i.e, door closed, etc).

I could be wrong, but again, I am pretty sure I'm right that they've still continued their charitable efforts.

What you are referring to were the Timmy and Tammy flights on the B767-300 over Niagara Falls. In fact in the CP orange days, we used to use a DC-10-30! The airline donated the aircraft, the aircrew their time, Shell donated the fuel, and all proceeds went to the Canadian Airlines Charitable Foundation, also known as Canadi>ns helping Canadians.

When Canadian Airlines merged with Air Canada, the Canadian Airlines Charitable Foundation became a part of Air Canada's "Dreams take Flight".

The Dreams Take Flight program is a program where many many Air Canada flights leave various parts of Canada with a plane load of Challenged children for a day at Disneyland or Disney World. Again, the airline donates the aircraft and the crew their time. Several fun raising events occur during the year raise funds for Dreams Take Flight to cover the other expenses. For the record, all the proceeds from Robert Milton's book, "Straight from the Top" went to Dreams Take Flight.

I was not talking about that flight. I was talking about the flight that would leave the Canadian Airlines Hanger and do a 45 minute return flight to Niagara falls.

The flight you are talking about is still going and going strong
