Why would this cause delays? It doesn't cause any in Doha, and there it isn't random.

It doesn't cause delays in Doha, or Dubai. since he mentioned TSA, its the USA we are talking about. They are trying to do the right thing, but have no idea on how to do it.

I was checked by the TSA at the gate twice in the last three years, it always happenend in JFK's Terminal 1.

I have nothing against these checks but please, why don't normal people do it instead of complete morons?

I was asked once if my contact lense cleaning liquid is a dangerous chemical liquids. Another time I was asked to turn on my cell phone because the TSA lady never saw a Siemens cell phone (no joke), and another time I was told not to drink my can of Budweiser - which I had in my carry-on trolley - inflight, otherwise they wanted to bring me to court (also not a joke!).

As I already wrote, I have absolutely nothing against security checks, but please choose people with a clue instead of the idiots I encountered!

The whole TSA is a huge joke on the American people.

It's all about perception & the perception is a joke. The people who checked me out last time I was at LAX could hardly speak english & were probably on $5 n hour.

What's thw solution? Do away with the TSA altogether. Someone is mking a lot of money, but there's very little security.

You only have to look around. Anyone who wanted to could easily get around the so called security.

If Bin Laden et al, wanted to get into the U.S., they'd fly in on a Learjet full of cocaine. How can the U.S. expect to keep out anyone who WANTS to get in, with huge boarders with Canada & Mexico & huge coastlines.
(The U.S. can't even keep poor Mexicans from flooding in, what hope have they got keeping someone who's well organised & well financed ? )

It's like the drug trade, it's never going to be beaten. Need to look outside the square. As many have suggested, the drug trade can only be beaten by taking away demand. How do they do that? Maybe shoot all the users ?

Don't they do that in Singapore ?

I have to say that I also encountered many competent and friendly TSA guys, but those who made the aforementioned gate checks were definitely working on 5 USD/hour, no normal company would employ such retards!

The TSA is going through some major changes at this time, which in my opinion is great! Many banned items are now allowed on board once again (clippers, and small tools) since the TSA has realized that they need to be looking for people trying to get explosives on board, and that the threat of getting into the cockpit is little to none. Give the TSA time, they are definitely going in the right direction...(FINALLY)

Pssssht . . . the only RIGHT direction for those idiots is non-existence and re-birth.

Although they say they are going to concentrate on purposeful searches and looking for items that are truly a threat - as opposed to Little Johnnies "Car-Seat" or Granny Smiths Knitting Bag - I'll believe it when I see it.

Oh, and picking Dec 22 as the day to supposedly "change" the way they do business at the checkpoints - yet another brillian frickin' move my the most disjointed, overpaid, underworked bunch of idiots in the Federal system.
