Royal Brunei To Get A340's Or 777's In 2006

Wed Dec 28, 2005 6:54 am

Royal Brunei is to introduce either 3 A340's or 3 777's in 2006!

The airline plans to replace its existing 767-300ER's on many flights.

These flights include London and Frankfurt, which are currently operated via DXB (LHR) and BKK (FRA)

The airline plans to serve LHR direct, but also keep some services via DXB  Smile

Royal Bunei is also to add an extra flight from Bandar Seri Begawan to London during the month of January due to increased demand  Smile

I hope we can see the A340's and 777's stick on DXB-LHR routes, maybe give a higher competition to VS EK and BG  Smile

Where could we see these aircraft come from, A340's and 777's are pretty hard to get hold of recently?

Interesting, even more interesting is the proposed in service date during 2006 - where will Royal Brunei find 777s or A340s on such short notice? 777s are nearly impossible to source at the moment......the A340s may be slightly easier to find, the first of AC's A343s may be available after the Summer 2006 schedule, but that is still very, very unclear.

Didn't Royal Brunei already sell off a couple 340s? For some reason this crossed my mind. It might have been the Sultan's own 340 that was painted in Brunei colours.

It was.

As for BI flying either A340s or B777s... I'll believe it when I see it - they've had this plan a couple of times before (just like they'd had the plan to introduce A319s several years earlier than when they actually did come into the fleet), so I'm not holding my breath here.

Hope they serve AKL with a new aircraft, personally I think they would get the A340.

Royal Brunei was advertising for crew current on 330s not long ago in flight international.

I actually hope they go with the A340s... that'll make up for me missing out on photogging the Sultan's nicely painted A340 when he had it.

Wasn't there talk a year or two ago of Royal Brunei taking the two AC A345s that were parked? Perhaps that idea will be revived?

The Airbus A340-200 painted in the colours of Royal Brunei (V8-BKH) remains so painted up to last week . . . it was in Singapore on 21 Dec 2005.

Yea, I would love to see an A340-500 in Brunei colours, but what routes would need the A340-500? Maybe the US, but is there realy that much demand?

Royal Brunei's fleet currently consists of 10 aircraft:
6 - Boeing 767-33A(ER)'s

He still does have it, V8-BKH was previously with the Bahrain Royal Flight, but is now flying for Sultan's Flight of Brunei!

The Sultan of Brunei also has a 767-200ER (V8-MHB) and a 747-400 (V8-ALI)

Does anyone know why V8-AC3 (A340-213X) was never taken by the Sultan of Brunei?

I hope we can see Royal Brunei pick up some 777's or A340's soon  Smile

There have been about half a dozen rumours a year about RBA's 767 replacement- as mentioned above, believe it when you see it. The airline has some very serious problems at the moment- financial and operations related. The company is being sued in the UK by a former pilot alledging illegal rostering which is rubber stamped by the Bruneian aviation authority- and- to top it all of- so many pilots have resigned in 2005 there is a serious crew shortage- the salary and working conditions, once one of the best in Asia for expats- are now one of the worst. Even if RBA did advertise in Flight International- once the candidates see the compensation package on offer they will all withdraw their applications.

Financially, RBA has never once made a profit and the Govt. has made it clear they are fed up with bailing them out. There is no customer service culture in head office- employees see themselves as working for an off-shoot Govt. department where the main focus of the airline is a diplomatic flag-waiving exercise. However, the company does employ some strange accounting practices, like writing off a 767 over 5 years instead of 12.

Routes that have been abandoned by RBA over the last decade (some of which never should have started, but RBA has problems getting traffic rights with a population of under 400,000 people):
ZRH CAI KWI BAH AUH CCU RGN LBU MYY KCH BPN TPE PEK KIX

RBA desperately wants to dump DRW, but under the terms of their Australian air services agreement, DRW must be served if they want to continue their BNE flights.
